Alright, first question. With the understanding that the Micromodular is really 1/4 of the classic, can you use modular classic patches on it or only ones specific to the Micro. I've got all the ones for the clavia site....is there another source for patches.

You can play NM patches on the MM, only with lower polyphony The NM has 4 dsp chips. The micro has one. However the NM does not allow sharing of resources across dsp chips. So if you have a patch using 100% dsp, the NM will allow four voice polyphony on it and the MM will allow one.

If you are interested in playing monophonic patches, the NM and the MM have roughly the same capabilities. If you are interested in polyphonic patches, the NM has roughly four times the power.

Welcome,

Jerry

Is it possible to look through a patch and determine if you can get more than 1 voice on a micro? I think patch loading can only be determined in the synth itself. I wanted to write a scanner program to go through all the MM patches to see which ones would play > 1 voice, but I don't think it's possible to do this outside of the synth.

Yes, maybe not with 100% accuaracy, but quite possible. All the information you need is available from my NM pages, see :

http://www.iaf.nl/Users/BlueHell/info/patch303.htm and
http://www.iaf.nl/Users/BlueHell/info/p303.htm#Module%20table

I also should have a text version somewhere that is easier for computer programs to parse.

I made an NM Classic "patch complexity analyzer" once for 3.0 patches, it can be found at http://www.iaf.nl/Users/BlueHell/html/software/software-complexity.htm - for those who want it - I still have the source code (Delphi, version 5 or 7 I think), but not on-line. It uses some arbitrary formula to calculate complexity based upon module count, cable count, CPU/memory utilization etc.
