Setting up Softsynths in OMS |
|
|
Can anyone please fill me in on how to setup a softsynth in OMS. I'm using OMS 2.3.8 in OS 9.2.2. I understand fully how to add a hardware synth in OMS having done it about a thousand times, but for some reason can't quite get my head around this one partly beacause the synths' manual info is so sparse on the subject! There's a Midi in and a Midi channel select from the drop down menu in the synth software and THAT'S IT! Do I use the IAC bus as the midi in, for instance? Do I have to add a device in the OMS setup? None of this is explained in this manual Plus it's an old, no longer supported product. So I guess what I need is a Softsynth/OMS 101 course. It's probably easy and I'm just missing it. Any help would be great. _________________ Apple Mac Pro 3.1 2.88 GHz. Intel Xeon Quad

Softsynths usually won´t show up in OMS. Mostly they are inside a host, like Cubase 5.x or similar. Standalone apps have their own midi settings, like B4 and Pro 52. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

So how do I get it to show up in the Pro Tools list of instruments in a Midi track? _________________ Apple Mac Pro 3.1 2.88 GHz. Intel Xeon Quad

Any PT users here? When I still was on 9, I used Steinberg Cubase 5.x VST 32. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

The info is all there- it looks brief but it does make sense and it's actually easier than you think. Trust me
What midi interface are you using? |

Oh no- not the midisport!!
I had nothing but problems with the smaller version- no actually I tell a lie- it worked flawlessly for a while then one day it just 'died'!
If you can find one, the best cards are the PCI ones- not the usb ones. _________________ ACHTUNG!

not exactly sure about Pro Tools
but in OMS setup [which i presume is in PT's], make sure you have all ports checked off as inputs ....
i assume you will be triggering the softsynth from a controller..if so, make sure the port number that corresponds to the controller's midi input on the MIDIsport, is selected on a PT's track _________________ Spiral Recordings |
