It will be about the size of a 5 minute mp3 or something, although it might be downloaded more - initially :-) _________________ Jan

Here are a couple of solutions
https://sourceforge.net/projects/bytemonsoon/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tbdevnet/
I don't know about the implementation of this, I got these links from a friend who set up a torrent tracker and he said it was very easy.
Basically a tracker can create a uniquely ID'd torrent file for subscribers to download. |

For locally mirroring the G2 Patches site with OS X,
try http://www.sitesucker.us/ -- I just used it, and
grabbed the whole archive in about 5 minutes.
Very clean app, but careful with the preferences--
set the limits to level five and URL host, as well as
lookl at all the other options. very powerful and fast.

Mosc, first- well done!!
2nd- Sitesucker. I don't recommend use of this as it can

I looked into the bit torrent. I don't think it is for us. We have enough bandwidth to support the distrubution of these archives. P2P doesn't seem to be appropriate for the distribution of copyrighted material. If we expected hundreds of thousands of downloads, we might be in trouble, but I don't think there are that many people using G2s. _________________ --Howard

Yes if you have ample capacity then Bittorrent is not neccessary.

Why not? I think some Linux distros and related matters use it too. On one hand this is copyrighted material, on another it's very much a open source colaborative thing and for those I think P2P makes perfect sense. Still, if we don't need to the it makes more sense to keep it central since that enables us to asure it's up to date which might avoid confusion. _________________ Kassen |

Instead, I'd like to develop something where members can do a bulk download and the database keeps a timestamp so the next time they only get newer files. All of this must wait until I get some time to get my hacker hat back on. Now I have my international conference organizer hat on. |
I have written a perl script that can solve this problem. Get G2PatchesLoader_Perl.zip here:

Good work on the perl script. I looked it over. Looks like there are now several ways to get bulk downloads of patches. There are a bunck of software upgrades that are in the pipe. Hope they don't cause you too much grief. _________________ --Howard

Fixed...
It's been that way since day one. You are the first to notice it...
