I'm looking for a nice project this winter that can give me a basic, but nice sounding system with room to grow. What are your thoughts about the MFOS Ultimate? Sounds good? Too pricey? Not pricey enough? I haven't read too many reviews of this beast.

Thanks

What is your skill level? I just started working on the Soundlab Plus and if you are as experienced as me (a little electronics in High School, but nothing since) I'd suggest starting with the Plus as well. The hardest part for me so far has been not getting too psyched to double check my orders before I click buy...

I'd reccomend the Soundlab Ultimate over the Soundlab Plus as a first project -- the wiring/PCB is much less confusing and there are no board-mounted components on the Soundlab Ultimate. It is a "bigger" project, but probably "easier" for a newbie.

So there must be plenty of room for little tumble weeds to go rolling across the PCB? Laughing Wink

Err... I mean there are no panel mounted resistors/capacitors/diodes. Wink Those elements were the biggest hassle for me, when building a Soundlab.

Yeah, I thought that's what you meant. Very Happy
I actually get into a bit of "air wiring" from time to time. It's like doing tiny sculptures with wire and solder.

I agree, i usually spend 20mins looking for R666 or whatever value on the pcb only to read in large letters that it is across pot X Y or Z, oops, more vigilance needed Smile Smile , it happens to more people than would admit to Smile .
If i had not already built soundlab V1 with mods to make it the plus version, i would have got the ultimate which is the most distilled version of the original soundlab to date.

So true... I spent a good 15 minutes today doing this exact thing. Smile

You have it easy, maybe you should try the stripboard version...
