I might have misunderstood this, but why do you want to run by default this through an expander? Why not simply make a decent recording first with no clipping and then try different compression/expansion settings? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

he's looking for some sound library. I would go for some software sampler (hardware samplers are dead) with some decent library. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

i need some machine or whatever software to make some very good strings sound..
a friend of mine told me about some samples dvd's by Eastwest called vienna synphonic orchestra or something like this..
what would u use to get realistic strings sound? |

It all depends. If a truly realistic sound is needed then a skilled player and a real instrument is what you need.
The Vienna samples series is pretty good but it might be overkill. I reckon you should try first putting down the basic track using some synth strings and then analyse the result. It is not unlikely that a basic software sampler app comes with some failry decent string samples. Try Kontakt, Gigastudio or Halion. Motu has a great product too.
Layering the samples with synth strings and also something like A.S.S String Studio might work well too.
Playing synthetic strings by simply holding down chords doesn´t usually give useful results. You should try to listen to string quartets and also have a look at the notation.
If you need something like 10 violins and 4 cellos, then recording these one by one as single voices could be a solution. However, YMMV. You might as well get away with a Proteus module. You are the one who ultimately decides what sounds good and you should probably try the simple solutions first. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
