A sound lab keyboard style? |
 |
|
I finish my SLMS and the matrix keyboard scanner project from Ray's site, they really works very well..I'm looking for ideas to mount my SL, the matrix CV control and 49 note keyboard into a workstation style case (like roland, korg styles) ... I thought about aluminium panel and bottom and laterals in wood... You have some ideas?? _________________ Penetrovisk |

A belated
Carpentry is not my strong suite, but I'd suggest thinking about keeping the thing as light as possible. That is one theme I've heard in my mind after every DIY project, "I wish it was lighter." _________________ --Howard

A 49 note keyboard (full size keys I assume) is the biggest part of it. I agree with Mosc, keep it light.
If I were building from scratch I'd probably go for all aluminium, pop riveted together, hinged lid with keyboard on the bottom and SoundLab in the lid. Kind of in the style of those attache cases they sell these days. I've seen mini versions with hair clippers, Bar-B-Q sets in them. That way it's safe when closed but not not too heavy.

It would definately be lightweight!
You could skin part of it with veneer, paper mache, brand name stickers etc. Contact glue the occasional 1mm sheet aluminium for bolting bits down and increasing rigidity. Maybe even do a bit of plastruct sculpture here and there. Hey! here's an idea! Make it look like the surface of the Death Star! Am I a genius or am I a genius? Or am I just criminally insane? _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

I know exactly why you're doing what you're doing. That's why I said your attention to the design was so admirable. It's the best way to ensure that you end up with something which is looks professional and functions reliably.
I just like stupid humour. It's a good way of bouncing around ideas (which sometimes bear very valuable fruit)
Keep up the good work!! _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |
