About Nord Modular G2 Engine |
|
|
Hi, I'm ManuMontevideo, here introduce myself:
http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-2098.html
Here's too some photos about our shows :
http://homepage.mac.com/mcvillalba/montevideo/PhotoAlbum32.html
As it already goes being a little habitual, we make trips in which I am not wanted to risk to invoice my luggage.
Little to little I am been interested in the modular synthesiss and I belive that the G2 Engine is very practitioner for me since it could take to me in hand luggage with the TiBook (Apple G4 Laptop) and MIDI controllers.
Recently Clavia announce "The Nord Modular G2 Editor for Mac OS X is planned for release in May and will be posted for download at www.clavia.se - free of charge!". So this is a great notice for me.
In Our Shows we play the Ti Book (with Ableton Live ), so the engine will be connected to the laptop.
With the G2 engine where it would change for example from a sound to another one in the live show one?.
it could use it like vocoder without a previous one?.
it could synchronize it with the ableton LIve soft running in my laptop.
By last, me they recommend it?, nonlife of this, I am a gray clerk but I someday hope to work on time complete in this.
Thanks a lot and badly pardon my use of the English |

You would be able to change patches from the G2 editor running on your computer, or you could send it program change messages from a midi controller.

If I understand the question correctly, yes. You can use the G2 as a vocoder, a very flexible one.
When you send it a Program Change message, it changes quite quickly, almost instantly.

I personally haven't used Ableton Live, so I can not say anything about it. Maybe someone else here knows.

I love the G2 and recommend it. But, and I have said this before, it is a synthesizer for people who like to create their own patches. If you do not enjoy patching, then the G2 is not for you.

Very few of use can afford to do this full-time.

I'd like to create my own patches, and learn it . I'm looking for this but now I know that it can be possible to use it in my recordings and to take it the shows ones.
The next weekend we have a show and In June we will do a mini tour (mini mini ) by Buenos Aires (Argentina) reason why I have thought to hope July to do to me with a G2 Engine, thus in addition he will be already the publisher for Mac OS X no?.
I hope to have running the G2 in my Ti for those dates, now I'm very anxious
Thank you very very much for the advices . |

Oe Oe Oe Oeeeeee, Hellooo, I'm back from Uruguay & Argentina and I've got a G2 Engine, the Editor for Mac OS X .In this moments I'm euphoric but, at the same time I'm readig (studding with my soul i like to say) the Manual but little by little and reading the links of this forum I'm learning something (it's not easy for me but either too difficoult, only differents concepts).I'm having fun with presets, but either the sounds are incredible, I can't believe it .
On the other hand, I hope someday, to be able of create patches and performance of so high quality.I know is a looooong way but while I'm learning and enjoy with special people like you.
And Now my first question :
Can the variations be controlled by an external MIDI controller?.
THank You very much.
Again excuses by my english |

If what you want to do is play more than one variation at the same time from your midi controller, then no, you can't do it. The variations are just different combinations of knob settings, you can't have more than one active for a patch. What cc70 does is select which variation is active, the same as pressing the button on the panel.
To use more than one variation at a time, copy the patch into more than one slot. Or, for a small patch, you could duplicate the essential modules within the patch and use the midi modules to route different midi channels to different oscillators etc. |

I'm not familiar with the Novation, but can't you program the buttons to send different values of the same controller (cc70)?
If not, what you would have to do is create a patch in the G2 that translates the controllers to the appropriate values. The midi modules in the G2 are very flexible and can be used to do all sorts of neat midi mapping and routing functions. |
