ADSR for the 21st...Switching Jacks? Subject description: What gives??? |
|
|
Could one of the more enlightened fill me in on the use of switching jacks for the gate and trigger inputs. Not exactly grokking what is going on here. I want to build it with bananas and would love to get around extra panel switches if I could avoid it (dreaming??).
I have it all laid out to fit 3 on a small board, but need to figure this out.
Thanks plenty. |

ADSR for the 21st...Switching Jacks? |

I think Thomas may have a better explanation, but my take on this is that the switching jacks allow use of the ADSR with only a gate (useful for AR envelopes) OR only a trigger (useful for AD envelopes). The switching jacks aren't needed if both gate and trigger are used. I'm not quite sure how to implement this on a banana jack system.
Tim (add a little rum and triple sec and you've got a banana jaiquiri) Servo |

Tim got it in one (as they say in Blimey).
For emphasis, you can use this thing as an AR, AD or ADSR depending on what plugs you've inserted.

Hey thanks Tim and Tom. With this increased understanding I think I will work out how to cram the switches in. |

Hey Numbernone,
This sounds like a job for....Super Switch!!
Faster than a speeding bullet, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, and capable of feeding one his cake while letting him keep it, too, the mild mannered C&K 7211 ON-ON-ON SPDT switch may be able to provide a control that provides (in its three positions) AR/AD/ADSR.
Lemmee think about this - either it'll work, or this post is all wet....
Cheerio,

This is so strange... I have decided to undertake the MUTANT VCF, and was gonna ask what gives with the 7211?? It seems to have a mystical aura around these parts.
Also of great importance, WHO SELLS IT?? I have a great deal of trouble tracking this thing down, apart from those ones with the paddles (which look hard to mount). |

Mouser stocks them P/N 611-7211-001. Not terribly cheap (7 bux apiece). A few years back Electronic Goldmine was selling them for a buck apiece, and Harry Bissell mentioned it on the SDIY list. It took a little while for it to dawn on me what all they could do. It doesn't seem like much when you look at the contacts made for each position, but it's become the solution to a number of switching dilemmas I've been faced with since. You can select between one or both inputs, set it up for 1 of three selection, things like that.
Cheerio,

YES this looks as thought it will work out very nicely.
I can see these being amazingly usefull. I will probably have a few questions about that MUTANT soon. |
