Modular G2 Use As Notes And Automation? Subject description: How to use notes and automations insteed of recording. |
 |

| I've been using modular g2 for while now, and i'm little bit tired of recording, would appreciate if someone could help to explain or make some printscreens or help in anyway.. i'm using a usb midi interface, and the audio cables correctly connected to my RME Fireface.., but would love to use automations and putting my own notes instead of recording.. ? |

Moved the message to the general G2 section, as the patch section is meant for patches.

| the synth works perfectly, but i want to put my own notes, like C5,4,6,7 etc and automate the knobs.. Also i dont want to work with recording. I mean is there not any other way of working with it without recording.. I dont remember what its called in cubase or any other sequencer but if i am right it is add-key-note.. |

So if I understand you well...
You want the synthesizer to sound all the time, playing notes, while you are tweaking the knobs?
I'll wait until receiving a positive answer, otherwise I'll write nonsense...

Anything can be automated! You could use sequencer modules for generating both note and control data. There are too many easy solutions to your problem.
A great start would be to go through some g2 topics discussing 'generic patches' 'noodles' 'sequencers' etcetera, download some of the patches, play around with them until you find one that does what you like and go from there!
Study, assimilate, recreate.
There are so many wonderful discussions and patches in the archives, you can never stop learning by taking those apart.
Good luck, have fun!! _________________ http://husc-sound.com |

...you could trigger the g2 over midi and you can control the transport of your daw with the g2 over midi.
Or press 'record' and have your daw count off a few bars, so you have time to sit down behind your controller!
...orrrrrr, get a mate to press record for you! _________________ http://husc-sound.com |

I believe your question is computer software sequencer related? How to create Midi notes without playing the keyboard and recording it?

You need a software sequencer program such as Ableton Live or Cakewalk Sonar. The G2 is not capable of storing automation on its own, so it needs help from a software application of this kind. (Yes, I know that it is possible to store such information in a sequencer module, but such storage is very limited)
Are you using such a program now? If so, what is it? |

Im almost sure that that works in cubase for sure but i think i know what the problem is now.. The Midi 1/2 is inactive in cubase dont know why.. I can see them and select them and it signal but no sound.. I have a CME Usb Midi Interface midi in and out cable and usb in one.. connected to the modular g2 and from modular g2 to usb port.. and audio cables is connected to Channel 3/4 In RME Fireface.. and ive opened them as OPEN/ON all time in the matrix.. I Got sound everywhere but wihtout cubase when put notes in key editor no sound but signal... Could it be something with the MIDI Remote that RME Fireface has`? or anything else |

You cannot use the G2 USB port for MIDI, which means that you *MUST* have a MIDI cable between your MIDI interface and the G2. |

Not true. All you need in order to use the editor is to have a USB cable connected. If you want to be able to send notes from your computer to the G2, you must have a MIDI cable connected between your computer's MIDI interface output and the "MIDI IN" connector on the G2. If you want to be able to send notes from your G2 keyboard to your computer, you need a second MIDI cable connected between your computer's MIDI interface input and the "MIDI OUT" connector on the G2.
That's three separate cables, each with a separate purpose. |

If all the cables you describe are connected properly, then you should be able to send MIDI from your computer to the G2. In addition, you need a way to get the audio signal from the G2 back to your computer. That would take the form of two cables from the OUT1 (MONO) and OUT2 connectors to corresponding input ports on your audio interface.
You have those? |

| So what you are saying is that you are sending MIDI notes from Cubase to the G2 but no sound is coming out? |

What do you mean "signal only"? That is, what is the difference between signal and sound? |
