How can I make twisted, grinding basslines using only a few software plugins like Ableton Operator or Ableton Sampler?

Can you suggest some software that is specifically targeted at just this application? (NI Massive looks promising)

I have heard these sounds in lots of different genres of music: Dubstep with the wobbly bass, Tech/ElectroStep really grindy evolving twisted basslines, BreakCore with similar influences and just nasty distorted noise bass, even Metal/Hardcore/Spazz/Punk comes to mind.

Try using the saturator plugin that comes with live, gives a nice edge =]
