They seem to be rather expensive, mainly because one needs so many personel to tune and a whole formule I pits team to change the strings once in a while...
But it's a beauty

Well, now a serious comment.
There is always a relationship between the inventor/builder, the player and the kind of music which can be played with the instrument.
Surely there are a lot of people who want and can create such a thing and also more people who have the money to spend and buy it, but I like to know what music can it create? Does it provide the solution to a certain musical need? Does it realise a typical sound concept?

Wout, I certainly share your enthusiasm.
The New Dream Sympitar appears to be Fred Carlson's latest evolution on the Harp Guitar, which first appeared over a century ago. Unfortunately, Carlson's celebrity demonstrator (Alex DeGrassi) of the New Dream does not appear to take advantage of the lower or higher harp strings. Jeff Titus at least can be seen using the harp bass strings on his Harp Sympitar in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjjFOTwr4Uo&feature=related
Another fine performance on Harp Guitar, by Andy McKee:

Harp Guitars and Sympitars appear to be most successfully employed by players who have good arrangements to play, either written by themselves or others. Usually, these are players who play solo sets, though I just posted a vid of a player in a duet with a great bassist. Even though these instruments appear to be limited in the lowest bass range (only 5-7 harp notes), one never senses this limitation because of the quality of arrangement and skill of the player.
The New Dream adds the ability to adjust the tuning of the bass harp strings on the fly, via the moveable capos, as well as fret notes, and produce hexaphonic audio. Then there's all those other strings... and the 2nd hexaphonic output.... A New Dream controlling a Nord G2 could be a beautiful thing - anybody creative enough to make good music on a New Dream will probably find a way around the G2's 4-MIDI-channel limitation, short of using 3 G2 units (12 channels total, to match the 12 MIDI capable strings) . Interfacing with a StringPort or two may also be interesting, especially with a mature version of Synful Orchestra (or Synful Jazz or Synful World)... when the Synful developer finishes porting these products to StringPort to take advantage of its better-than-MIDI capabilities. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud
