Hello!

I'm so glad to have found this forum. I was just thinking to myself that one day the world would become sufficiently interconnected that I could share the music I am compelled to make with enough others to find someone who understands, who is spoken to by the sounds. I myself have never understood what it is I am trying to accomplish musically but I feel a strong enough urge to continue that there must be something there. Perhaps one of you can see what it is.

I was recently hired as the service technician for Moog Music Inc; this means my day job is fixing analog synthesizers and Moogerfooger effects pedals... I couldn't imagine a dreamier job than I have now. I hope I can stick with it for a long time and learn a lot about the design of electronic instruments.

My favorite things are sampled realnoises like cicadas and frogs; percussion made from field trips to scrapyards and dumpsters.
Microphone to minidisc to PC to programs like Cool Edit and AudioMulch... I'm still working on integrating everything into one PC environment such as Cubase... for now I have to do a lot of program swapping and I often stall out on a project because it scales up to unmanageable proportions. A single program to handle all my processes would maybe help.

I used to be in an ahead-of-its-time electro-industrial jam band called Veterans of Future Wars... we put out a couple of CD-R's and then disbanded due to ADD and substance abuse problems.

I am currently fronting an artconcept "band" called the Shaped Static Project... based on a reference from a John Shirley cyberpunk short story called "Shaman" (printed in the 1989 World's Best SF compilation)...

Welcome! Yes - lots of people around here in to mangling sound from field recordings and analog synths and softsynths and all that. You'll find yourself well at home here.

Yes I do live in beautiful Asheville, North Carolina, USA. Stop by the Moog workshop for a tour if you're ever in town.

Sure, the Ether Bunnies used to Play Vincent's Ear all the time!
I'm terrible with names but I know the individuals, especially Bill. Cool that you know of them:)

I used to play in a band called Night of the Lepus, that coexisted with the original Ether Bunnies; we never got to do any double-bunny-header shows though. Sad

I forgot to mention earlier, I also play keys for a live band, sort of psychedelic swirly dream-rock... called Black Balsam. They used to be a fairly well-known regional act called Chiaroscuro. ... now the drummer is also a DJ and collectively we go for more modern textures... working on crafting a good set for outdoor dance parties in the woods! Actually we did two sets at the regional Burning Man fest a couple months ago, so we're on the way towards that goal.

BTW, I read about your surgery and wish you the best possible recovery-
My sister-in-law recently had a similar operation, going in thru the throat to repair a herniated disc in her neck... She felt so good after the surgery was over, so much better than her former self, that she decided to leave her husband for a new young lover and become an international Fetish model... so be careful your newfound vigor doesn't go to your head! Wink

hi amos, I am very similar minded about music, I collect noises from everywhere, using a portable DAT & a stereo mic, then pool all these noises into a sampler, its a great way to work, I integrate these noises with "real" instruments, to produce sound compositions, some are in a song format others are just constantly evolving etc.

Have you heard of Basil Kirchin?
