I've been walking the dogs out through the winter wheat lately. The two Shepherds, actually. The Beagle has hurt her leg.

I rather like the walk in winter wheat II. The transformation of flowers as one zooms in is especially nice. _________________ The question is not whether they can talk or reason, but whether they can suffer. -- Jeremy Bentham |

Thanks, Robert. There's a lot of wild mustard mixed in with the wheat
I showed Dirac's photo to my wife Linda, and her response was, "My God! God, that's a beautiful dog." I tried snapping a few of Frida & Ziggy during our walk yesterday, but they were too much in motion. Dirac has a beautiful profile. _________________ When the stream is deep

Subject description: Appalachian Trail / Pinnacle loop |
 |
|
Here are three photos from a hike around an impressive loop the other day, on the Appalachian Trail and a side trail in Berks County, PA.
The observatories belong to the Lehigh Valley Astronomical Society. I have never been inside, but our university recently donated a used telescope to go into one that's currently empty (we upgraded), and my friend Phill the observatory / planetarium director / prof has invited me to go camping here with students and him on a field trip some time. I have eyepieces from my 1991 Celestron C8, which probably would allow us to use > 1 scope. It's exciting!

Great pics, Dale. I have used those telescopes. The original one is an 8 inch refractor. A friend and I had it to ourselves a few years ago when Mars was at it's closest for the next 200 years. It was a very clear night to boot.
A wealth man from Boston bought that mountain top site many years ago and built an observatory for the 8 inch. When he died the local astronomy club got the site and have built several very nice scopes up there, including a home brew 20 inch. The 8 inch refractor is still the best for viewing the planets. _________________ --Howard

Thanks, Howard!
I'll keep you posted if we ever head up that way for observing. I am sure that I could invite a guest if you like.

Wow, there is a lot of detail in that picture. I love it. It's like being there, sorta. _________________ --Howard
