I'm completely new to the whole mixing thing, but i really want to try it out. Most of the stuff I want to do I just want to use my computer so i was wondering whats a good starting program for mixing songs together? preferably something cheap, but im definately willing to dish out money for this stuff. I'd really appreciate the help, i'm very excited to start mixing stuff.
thanks

Hi and welcome.

Some questions which can drive the decision:

Mac, PC, or Linux?

All have different tools for audio and MIDI sequencing, recording, live playing, looping, etc. Problem is, most are only on that one platform. There are some exceptions.

Audio mixing, MIDI sequencing, a little of both? Do you want to make mix CDs or do you want to produce music? The difference between the equivalent of a DJ mixer and a digital audio workstation is fairly wide.

Since you say you're a beginner there is probably no need to discuss mastering tools yet, but that's another whole area.

Anyway, those questions are to help get a better idea what you are trying to do. Wink

you'll need to get your head round DAW (digital audio workstation) software and how they work with audio, pc's and peripherals - this sweetwater guide is a good intro:
