I am very interested in building a modular system to work primarily as an fx processer/waveshaper for my synths/drum machines(prophet 08/voyager/303/machine drum/808)...
Just wondering what modules are the most versatile/flexible. I'm not so interested in just mangling sound til it's unrecognisable noise...I'm more interested in sculpting sound and morphing/twisting/disfiguring...

Primarily i make dub/electronic hip hop, not noise or acid. I dig sci-fi soundtracks and composers like thomas koner/alva noto.

Thinkin maybe filters(frequensteiner/borg), waveshapers(ommg/maths)...

Any suggestions ? Filters/waveshapers/procesors...would be much appreciated...

And plz have mercy for my dumbness as i have no modular experience at all...
Although i'm thinkin in the near future to by the vx/cv units to pump up the voyager, as the basis for my personnal moog modular..hahaha...

thx

PS..thinkin of gettin a 6u doepfer case..

welcome and hi!

You already have a Voyager? If you don't already have one, consider the VX-351 CV expander which makes a few things easier. Well worth it.

The Voyager is 1V/Oct which is a nice standard. Make sure any modules you get are 1V/Oct modules - most are - but that is what your Voyager will put out. Plus you have access to the touch panel's X/Y/Z and envelopes, and the wheels.

"most versatile/flexible" is a subjective term. You can get a complicated module like a Doepfer Dark Star (which is really a whole synthesizer or VC voice) or you can go with control voltage generators (sequencers, random voltage generators, etc). Extra filters are useful, but not necessarily more useful than what you're starting with. What is it that you want to do, that you can't do with the Voyager?
