Never mind why would anyone in their right mind want to do such a thing. The real question is why should anyone want to listen to you any more?

Just want to chime in to echo the sentiment of "Ask first!" It's really simple. I've done a few board runs of classic designs, and asked permission to do them first. I've also asked for permission to use a couple of designs, received no reply, and didn't do them, beyond personal use. It seems pretty common sense to me. There are a lot of generous people in this community, that are perfectly happy to share, or let you do a run or two of boards based on their work, use parts of their designs, etc. If they'd prefer that you didn't in some cases, then that should be respected. I'm slowly learning, and hope to release a few of my own designs at some point. I know I'd want to be asked if someone wanted to use something I created (providing it was an original enough design.) I'm not advanced enough yet to come up with anything truly groundbreaking. My creations will mostly be in the simple-but-hopefully-novel-utility realm for a while.

I am of a similar position to J3RK
still learning and trying to learn more
and agree whole heartily with his entire statement
it is that simple.
In addition and from purely a personal perspective i believe
even where there are differances
even large differances
I should at least give some credit to the origins
from where i first drew inspiration from
that is not just only the nice thing to do , it can also
show other people the thought process behind the cct in question
ie: the evolution of a cct to its present form
this may aid others in the community as much if not more than
the design itself .

Well said.

What is legal is one thing, but like Fonik says, electro-music.com tries to function based on what is the ethical thing - what is the right thing.

If you are developing something you don't want other people to reuse, then don't publish it on a public forum. Certainly don't advertise it for sale here. Please don't post something and then remove it if you get cold feet or paranoid about being ripped off. It ruins the treads.

If you are going to profit on something significantly developed by others, then don't post it here on electro-music.com unless you have their permission. Give credit where credit is due.

If you use electro-music.com to advertise your products, and use the forum for product support, that is OK as long as you do so within the values of respect and integrity embraced by our community. This site is not for profit and as usage increases, it is getting increasingly expensive. We request that anyone that makes money facilitated by services of electro-music.com contribute a percentage to support the website and the community activities. There is an unobtrusive donate box on the front page.

Is there any way of adding a "Skip to Mosc's common sense on page 4" button to the top of this thread please?
I suspect your comment sums up the views of many many people rather succinctly.
Thank you
Smile
