Nice Board - Just Joined |

Hi, you guys may know me and I might know most of you already, but I finally got a spare moment to check out this board. Looks like an interesting crowd and I like the focus on experimental.
I've been sharing my music online since the late 80's; was part of the eMusic-L, early MP3.COM adopter and abandoner. I run Csound, mainly Yamaha synths (EX5, FS1R). Been recently trying to learn a little PD.
I write contemporary classical music and experimental electronic music... Check out my tuneage if you're curious... I'll be checking out some of you guys music this morning. I also run a contemporary classical portal and a blog. (See below).
Favorite trax of mine, are Espace, Eroica Spettrale, Lachrimae Crystallinum, Turning the Pearl, I and II...

| I am surfing those links of yours now. BTW: Do you know Robert Hagström? At http://www.amo.se/robert/ I have been trying to get him here, but obviously his music suits the profile of your modern whatnot music site best I guess. |

A blog is a weblog.
Like an on-line journal.
If you type "blog" into google you will see lots of info. |

neologism
A neologism (pronounced nee-AH-low-djism) is a newly invented word or term. Neologisms would seem to occur at a greater rate in cultures with rapidly changing technologies and with greater means for information dispersal.
A neology is, according to our Webster's, the use of a new word or the use of an existing word but given a new meaning. A second meaning given by Webster's for neologism is that of "a meaningless word coined by a psychotic." |

Viento del Monstruo

| Jeff wrote: | | Monster Cuban percussion orchestra and a virtual wind instrument from saxophone hell jam into multiphonic chaos. Another exploration into physical-modelling synthesis, but this time with beats. A little like cuban jazz, but some moments are arabic and some are just nuts. |
my guess is that your "wind of the monster" is Yamaha VL synthesis (you have an EX5, right?) but you do not seem to use a breath controller. If I am right you should
Do you remember Star Wars? The scene inside Jubba's cavern?
we see a small alien orchestra playing. Too bad they play some lame/plain XX century music. Your "Viento del Monstruo" would fit the scene much much better. I am serious, I mean: it's a compliment _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

AN EVENING WITH MR. JEFF HARRINGTON:
like in front of an open jar of cookies it is hard to stop eating them, so I could not stop downloading Jeff's music that is uniformly excellent (I prefer his electronic music to the "classical" one).
I dare awarding it with my personal IEM prize
P.S.
IEM stands for Intelligent Electronic Music _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

| We have our own new award thingie? And noone told me? Carlo, I kinda agree but i did really enjoy some of the "classical" ensemble music too. But i do not quite agree on the performances. The scores read better than the playing. |

Wow, that was quite the welcome! My classical music, although it does get performed pretty frequently, doesn't often get recorded, unfortunately and the recordings I have are sometimes not available to be shared over the web. Artificial recordings of my pieces are always unsatisfactory, unfortunately. Erg, Mercurealities, and New Zion Pastorale are all good recordings (especially the first two which are great real performances). Erg was just recorded by the german guitar and mandolin group, Duo Ahlert and Schwab for their new CD! They gave me a concert recording for my website. The realization of Gygr (which was premiered a few years ago in Amsterdam) and Gnomos are pretty good and BlueStrider has a pretty good realization by Steve Layton.
Seraph, I've known Richard for a long time via the Csound list. He's quite a nice guy! You studied with him, that would be cool... He put my Acid Bach suite and some of my Csound orchestras into his Csound book which was a very cool thing for me!
I've listened to a few of your pieces, seraph and they all seem to work really well on many levels. You are an IEM master yourself!
elektro80, I don't recognize that name, but I'll try and check him out today after I check out your tuneage... _________________ music

I found this "Alternative Csound Reference Manual"
http://www.kevindumpscore.com/docs/csound-manual/
I think it's old stuff but anyway....
I listened to the Acid Bach suite: it made me dizzy! impressive indeed

Yes, of course, and I have one, but I run out of breath so fast blowing into it...
This was more of an exercise in making wind-like things than emulating a wind instrument. Unfortunately, it comes so close that it makes it seem badly played in a few spots... it's an EX5R - amazing instrument.
Regarding Csound, it's a steep learning curve for non-programmers and its not an elegant programming language even for programmers, but it is amazingly powerful and the contributions of the community keep it on the cutting edge of sound design.
There's several synthesis methods, including 'Scanned Synthesis' that have yet to make it into hardware or VST! (It's a bizarre type of table lookup synthesiser that is meant for haptic controllers). _________________ music

Hello Jeff,
What a coincidence. I just quoted you a few days ago in the "what is experimental" thread.
Hope I see you around here often.
Seraph and Electro80 certainly are, but you know that by now.
Two more guys that make me laugh and get me thinking. Just like you
and Howard Moscovitz (this site's creator, editor-in chief).
By now you can tell the folks here are most receptive.
Don't be a stranger ok?
I'm still lurking in your blog from time to time and it's rewarding.
I've said before and I'll say it again, your "Eroica Spettrale" is marvelous! Glad I downloaded it off mp3.con before it disappeared.
Now back to Electro80 and Seraph....
