Gasp! Well, actually I think the stickies appear in precedence to the most recent post. The anti-kleeites will have to filibuster to keep the Klee down.
Besides, I wanna build one of these things too (all together now) One of these days..

Jan came to my rescue last night and suggested some alternatives to my rather sticky problem- so I'll try to address that later.

Hi guys,
a great little project here, hoping I can put one together next weekend! A few questions before I order all the parts though (as always).....
- dnny, the pics you posted of your dual ds7 have 7 pots per half (ie all the regulars plus the vca input level), and 4 jacks - trigger in, vca in, audio out, what's the last one?
- is there a simple way to mix the signals into a common output?
- can any type of piezo be used (I'm seeing ones ranging from tiny uncased to big speaker style), and is it just a case of mounting them on the case and hitting them? And if so, how do you isolate them so you don't trigger both?
It's late so I might just be being dense, cheers for any help though!

Hi Joel,
the fourth jack is just an extra one - it´s at the moment NC (not connected). when i was drilling the case i thought that two extra holes can´t be bad
for mixing the two signals try this Ultra-Simple Mono Audio Mixer
or this passive one:
(the resistor values are not critical, but the summing resistors and pots should be about the same value, i.e., for 50k pots use 50k summing resistors)
any type of piezo should work - remember to adjust the trigger sensitivity for your piezo and that's it.
for the isolation of two piezos use foam and soft materials - or just use external trigger pads (piezos)
here are nice instructions how to make trigger pads and how to isolate them Solid State Percussion Synthesizer
good luck on your project
thanks Tom for making this sticky - and sorry for all that i haven´t been around so much . . . lots of projects and work right now but i will be back

Eureka! I just had a healthy dose of Beefheart this weekend. I never tire of it. Ds7's soon, closing the gap on my list!! _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

wow - that looks really nice - not that "lab gear"- look but cool in other ways and really nice that its working.
did you substitute the LM324 whit CA324 or HA17324? _________________ Association of experimental electronics

Thank you Dnny.
Yes I've used these two different ICs like subsitutes of LM324 and DS7 sounds good.
Just few questions to know how to use it better:
1) I have added momentary push button for the manual trigger mod:maybe I don't understand how to use it .What do you think saying "you get continuos signal if you hold the button down"?
2)What can I put in VCA input?
3)I don't have intense changes when I turn VCO pot.Why? |

by signal i mean the sound of the "drum" - so when you push that button you should hear the sound - and when you release the sound should decay.
balance wrote: |

if you have some noise source plug it´s output to VCA input and you get "cymbal" or "hihat"-kind of sounds.
a radio tuned off channel works fine or you can input "any" audio signal. CD-player or such.. go experiment.

there is a problem in the main Oscillator. the pitch should change when you turn that knob. triple check connections and look for short circuits.
Hope this helps

sound clips could also help whit the trouble shooting.
so if possible please post some.
have you read the MFOS General Trouble-shooting Info? That could also help you get the OSC up and running. _________________ Association of experimental electronics

it´s a switch (SPDT) to change the noise.
and the trimmer 50K(sens/RV1) is for the trigger sensitivity, up and left on the schem J2 trig in connects to the trimmer.
i would put instead a potentiometer (if you have space in panel)- so its easy to set the trigger sensitivity. _________________ Association of experimental electronics

is there any possibility of putting attack on these things with a simple mod? _________________ Why is the dove a symbol of peace?

maybe there is a simpler mod than this - but you could ad this
Retriggerable AR Envelope Generator and connect it straight to DS7 VCA voltage input (pin5 on CA3080 or pin 1 on LM13700)
but i kind of like the fast attack of DS7. _________________ Association of experimental electronics

hi guys im very new to all this and have just received my pcb from m.bareille , got the info with it and on the wiring info it says for the rate pot connect pot pins 2 and 3 together but in the wiring schematic and the wiring picture on the site it says wire 2 to 1 ?its the same on decay aswell not sure what to do , also the wires that run to ground were do i wire them ? sorry for asking such newbie questions , but im very keen on learning hopefully with your help ill have it finished and a video up on youtube to go with my synare 3 vid
heres the link to the synare 3 vid its very similar to this ds-7 clone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIHLKMcpwqo

Hi vibesmaster,
it´s safe to wire the pots on both ways 2 and 3 together or 2 and 1 together. it affects on the min and max positions (min on left max on right or the other way round)- i don't remember witch one is correct but if you wire 2&3 and you get unwanted results you can swap the wires later.
all the ground wires connect whit the battery ground (-) usually the black wire.

Thanks dnny. I thought about totally bypassing the release generator from the ds7 and adding a new circuit like that from music from outer space ( or for a full adsr ) but what i was acctually asking was more like a modification of the ds7 pcb... so i didnt had to draw a new pcb. _________________ Why is the dove a symbol of peace?
