The fall/winter issue of Soundscape: The Journal of Acoustic Ecology
will soon be printed and distributed to WFAE members. Meanwhile, the
editorial committee is planning the Spring/Summer, 2004 issue. The
theme for that issue will be acoustic design. We are calling for the
contribution of possible articles, research news, events, and other
information related to this topic.

We will be looking at examples of acoustic design in architecture,
landscape development, and other environments in which planning has
been done to permanently enhance, modify, or create acoustic
environments. Possible examples include: the design of a landscape
environment that creates a place of quiet within an urban setting; the
development of a sonic playground for children; design of an
architectural space that enhances the acoustical experience of users;
classroom design to facilitate learning; acoustic modification of a
hospital ward to provide a healing environment; design of museum
environments that enrich a patron's experience, or the use of landscape
design to modify sound generated by heavy traffic environments, to name a few.

Please contact me if you have or know of possible articles and
resources on this topic. If you have up-coming summer events,
conferences, and workshops please send those along. And, if you are
aware of informative books, CD's, videos or other resources of interest
please let us know.

Comments and material can be sent directly to me:

Thanks you,
Gary Ferrington for the Editorial Committee
