Hello!
I have had an idea for some time now;

Lets say you have two audio files, each lets say 10 seconds long.

Then i would like to have a program that starts by chopping up the first audio file in equal pieces. And you can choose how many, for example: 2 -1000.

Then it does the same thing with the other file independent of the other one.

Then in the last step it puts the pieces together one after another.

I am guessing that splitting the audio up would be relatively easy to do, but putting it back together in this order may be the hard part.?

Is there anything like this ?

peace

Then, to go even further it would be cool if you could control the size of the "chunks" by lets say a sinewave, or even another audiofile?

welcome

Could do it manually with a wave editor, or automagically when you can find a modular softsynth with a wave file player module .. you could patch it.

Not that I want to push my own synth .. heh .. but made a quick patch to demonstrate .. it would need some more work to get the clicks out but that would be doable. Will post an mp3 and an image later.

Anway .. I think PD could do it too, and maybe others here have some more ideas.

edit: and yes .. could do something with modulating chunk size too .. you might also want to look into granular synthesis for even wilder stuff.

Hey thank u for your answer!

Just to be clear i am not very experienced in this kind of things.

I just came up with this idea, and i am just very curious of how it would sound, tweaking those parameters.

I have thought of doing this in a wave editor but it would take some time.

It would be cool to have program with a simple GUI with two sources and one output.

I would love to see your examples!

Ok .. simple one ... one wav whistles .. the other is spoken ... start points in wave are determined by a sequencer the sequencer clock divided by two selects which wav to play.

Edit : I saved the image with a faster speed setting than that the recording was made with ...

And somewhat more complicated .. same waves ... with the clickies out, variable speed, a bit of stereoization and reverb.

Yes, that pretty much demonstrates what i want to achieve!
Thank you!

So is that an actual piece of software( in the images) you are using to demonstrate this?
Doesn't look familiar.

Edit : are you using the EnvARRetrig here to remove the clicks right?

Cool

Yes, it is my Wren soft synth for windows ... other options for you could be PD or VCV rack (both are free to use).

And you are right about hte envelope modules, they will turn on when the signal is stable and off before the switch over to the next sample.

You can download Wren from https://www.bluehell.nl/wren/forums.html

Please note that with the download version the first patch image I've sent will not work because I had changed something for the WavePlayer module default settings (you would haave to connect a constant "1" signal to the speed inputs).

I'll attach that 2nd patch, for in case ... I did not keep a copy of the first one.

heh .. instant!

aand .. Vladimir Ussachevsky .. had to google that .. now listening, some nice stuff!

And indeed wave chopping with tape & scissors, that is how it was done initially. Then later one could do it with a wave editor, and now you can just have a bunch of five minute samples in a patch for automatically mangling 'm up.

Also, what would you call this process?
Because it is a kind of hard thing to research online?

Oh .. the router here craps out from time to time Confused rebooted now. Should make some automated check for that some day. Funny thing is that outgoing connections keep working fine but incomming will not work anymore, so I do not really notice iwhen that happens.

How to name the process .. heh .. I call it wave chopping or even wave claying in the past ... but a wave chopper seems to just be some sort of a weird knife.

So I dont know really.
