Embarassed
Hi!
My name is Alessio from Italy.
I wish to build the sound lab and I have a question about dual 100k potentiometers from all electronics .I can't understand if they are 1/4 W or 1/2W.For that use are the same (there are just different current consumption)?
Thanks!

Pots and resistors are rated on how much power they can handle before they break. How much power they use is dependent on the voltage across them. The equation for power used in a resistor is:

P = V2/R

On an analog synth, usually the power supply is at most plus and minus 15 volts, which is 30 volts. So the power used in a 100K pot would be at most 900/100000 = 0.009 watt.

If you play around with the numbers, you'll find that 1/4 watt resistors and pots are all you need most of the time. In fact, as long as the R is above 36K, you can get by with 1/8 watt resistors. (900/36000 = 0.025)
