Ok, now that I'm over my speechlesness I'll take 4 of these  I would really love to have more scales on one or two of them, though. Any ideas?

Probably some type of diode matrix on the DA bits? Maybe not.

I think you will need to have other values on the resistor ladder R8...R27 to do that. If you want to be able to switch between different scales on the fly, you will need a 6 pole (i think) switch to connect the ladder of your choice. You could of course use trimpots instead of resistors to get adjustable scales.
I might also build one or two of this quantizers, seems nice.

As long as someone can tell me exactly what to do, I'll do it . What about a keyboard style scale selection, with an on/off switch for each note in an octave? Would that be possible?

This is probably not a brilliant question, but what is the Initial Voltage pot for? Does it limit the possible output range? I don't understand.

how about the CGS Diatonic Converter, after the Quantizer CV?
This would work for Diatonic scale, no? Or is this the same thing as a half step (already available via half/whole switch)? |

weird I was looking at the CMOS cookbook the other day and sort of was thinking about how you would do somthing like this, and here it is cool! definitly an in demand module.
I think half steps are the diatonic scale?

It was. I ordered a couple, but Ray emailed me this morning and said he has decided to make some changes to it and is doing another production run. |

Ooo! Already! Please keep us clued in on how well it works! With Ray releasing IT, that could save me from wrapping a Constant Current Source around every single rotary switch, for my step sequencer!  Here's to hoping! |

got mine done tonight but it might be acting a bit fishy.
RF...do the switches only seem to change things that fit certain parameters? i think one thing i need to watch with my sources is that some are more than three octaves.
other sources it seems like you need to set the initial voltage to a certain area to get an output you can hear.
but i JUST got it done a few hours ago...so more time is needed
WHY NO GROUND HOLE??
i hate that.
(i even looked for secret holes...)
anyway..I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR MORE about the impressions you are getting RF, and also what sources you are using it on with good luck.
when calibrating it, my DVM is not giving me zero with no input...i am not sure if this is correct. should it put out something above zero no matter what?
anyway..seems cool

Surely you have a drill bit? There must be plenty of ground plane there just waiting for an extra hole to go through it!

If a board has a groundplane you could do that ... yes. But this one doesn't have one
Personally I always use solder lugs/pins or test point eyes to connect my power wiring, and it's no problem to connect two wires to such a pont.

since you have this working..maybe you can help me. i got a ground by stealing it...BUT when i hook up say a sample and hold being driven by noise into input A...i only get a couple of notes (in a pretty annoying sequence) out of the quantizer output.
flipping the switches seems to add a note or take on away...but i guess i thought with a fast sample and hold, i would get nice in tune melodies that were more than three notes
what am i doing wrong?
certain sources work better than others but even my wogglebug doesnt get me that much that sounds too complex.
what i am trying to figure out is if this is how ITS SUPPOSED to sound
can anyone give me a concrete example of how to set it up and what kind of results to look for?
later i can record samples.
i dont have any solder bridges and electrically it seems fine.
i checked the seating of all my chips too.
it is DOING SOMETHING to the incoming voltage, i guess i just had hoped it would do more.
also, when i turn the knob, it seems to make major changes every 1/4 of the pot but not much finer than that.

I have not had much time with it yet - but it seems a bit touchy, Dan.
The longer I used it the better I understood its capabilities and the better performance I got.
I had the same issues with my sources... and the initial voltage pot.
Re: the ground hole - I think we've just been so spoiled with Ray's PC Boards... it surprised me that it wasn't there
Sorry I don't have more for you - I don't have it mounted in the case yet and have been doing other stuff.

You meant the CD4013 B, didn't you? I'd never heard of a 40138 and went searching for it in Google. (No for sure data sheet.) IS there a direct version of the 74138? Or isn't it the 4051?
Don't matter, anyhow. Checked the schematic and it's the 4013.
Gotta get a couple of boards ordered. |
