Thunder!!! |
|

Well, here is the thunder patch from my 'Bad day for camping' performance, but slightly modified to allow 7 voices on an unexpanded G2, with 4 variations: Semi random, More random, Most random, and Effect. As you will hear, 8 variations are not needed.
This is, in my opinion, without doubt, the most realistic sound that I have created yet, and to be honest with you all, I'm extremely proud of it (if not modest ). It can, at times produce an unbelievably accurate thunder sound.
Also attached is an audio clip straight from this patch, with no external effects.
Have fun
P.S. There is a twelve second pause between the start of the thunder strikes, so there may be silence for a few seconds when you first load up the patch.
<< Edited: The updated version will need to be loaded into Slot A for all of the random modulation of parameters to work. >>>

Hi there.
I finally got hold of an audio clip with some real thunder on... and all of a sudden, my thunder patch didn't seem so realistic any more.
So I got tweaking and have come up with 1 variation to rule them all, (guess which film I've been watching recently ) that randomises the thunder clap size (decay), distance, timing and amount of electricty sound in it. There are now more individual thunder claps and I have just managed to keep the patch allowing 7 voices on an unexpanded G2 (despite actually going over 50% DSP!). The sound has also been significantly improved and I have recorded a new .mp3 file and updated/attached it on the post above, along with the new Thunder patch.
Have fun and turn it up!!! ... but beware: the near thunder can be considerably louder than the distant thunder! But turn it up anyway!!!
<< Edited: I forgot to say (as usual) that the new (attached above) patch needs to be loaded into Slot A to work properly). >> _________________ Sheridan

Considerably Louder may be an understatement!
My dog just ran out of the room howling in fear, so I would say its pretty realistic.
Nice One.

Would it be a good idead to start symbolically naming patches that need to be loaded into specific slots?
When someone tries to use any patch requiring specific loading instructions from the patch archive, they won't have any knowledge why the patch doesn't work. Adding something like SLOTA_thunder.pch2 makes it self-documenting. |

Not a bad idea... although patch names can only be so long. Maybe I could just put 'LOAD INTO SLOT A' on a name bar in the patch... knowing me, I'll probably forget to do that too!

With the special notation in the filename, it's obvious before opening the patch. But documenting inside the patch is a good idea too.
I don' tknow why Clavia limited the name to to such a short number of characters, when it clearly has room for 5-6 more.
I think it's time I listen to you patch now, it's raining outside, and it will help round out the ambience. |

Very realistic- but my cat is sitting in front of the subwoofer, so I can't crank it up yet. |
