Syncing to Midi

Hi all,

Here's a patch that is a modified version of one I made earlier (Timbre Shifter4.pch) This version processes an external stereo signal.

Each channel is processed by sets of filters (Timbre "A" = HPF+Vocal and Timbre "B" = HPF+Phaser) which are cross-faded by the main LFO at lower left. The phase relations between the LFOs which change the filter settings and the main LFO which controls the cross-fading are aligned so that you don't hear the filters suddenly change settings - they change when the cross-fader is passing the other filter set. This results in randomly changing filter shapes, but without any sweeping effect. More like a complex automated parametric filter.

Here's the question: I want to sync this to an external midi clock. I know this can be done, albeit in a limited way, by tuning a main LFO very close to the midi clock rate and using the reset input to hard sync the LFO. But when I try to connect the reset inputs and master/slave connections on the four "Timbre A/B" LFOs to maintain the proper phase relationships, I get strange results that sound like the LFOs are running at an audio rate, or wrong phase relationships. What am I forgetting?

P.S. - I tried manually matching the LFO rate to midi clock with an eighth note or sixteenth note tempo, and it sounds nice on drum tracks.

Hi Dave,

Nice patch .. been playing with a microphone for a while... J

I think I found a solution to your prob. See the patch I've included. First you need to calculate the right time for the master LFO.

Tempo (in BPM) / 60 (to go from minutes to seconds) = value

Get as close as you can to this value with the lfo frequency knob and then finetune it with the constant module under the LFO. Also make sure you set your Global Sync in System menu to 8 or 16 or else you won't be able to set the sync to 4 beats or lower. You can use different keys on your keyboard to select different syncs. E is always in sync with the keyboard.

The edited patch is synced to 148bpm
