each time i power up the g2 engine, my patches load up as in a 'new performance' - is there any way of avoiding this, and just having the patches load without the perf?

ps, i prefer to have no perf's in the g2 memory, just patches, as i recall all my patches to the slots by midi prog change.

welcome arebee

The engine always starts up in performance mode with the first performance it has in memory. Apparently it starts a new performance when there is no first one?

Anyway, there is nothing you can do about that.

Since you're using MIDI to select patches maybe you could use CC19 on the Global Midi channel to switch from performance to patch mode after power up. Also see page 144 of the G2 version 1.4 manual for this.

You could make a performance BTW that sends out a CC19 message to change from performance to patch mode, but that needs an external MIDI cable and a merger .. not very practical probably.
