I have some good news for anyone who wants to practice guitar: I have created a text version of Guitar Zero that runs cross-platform. Plus I added some new features to the program.

When you run the Guitar Zero program, you first select your game from a startup screen using the keyboard. Guitar Zero then draws a fretboard with one of the notes highlighted. You play that note and Guitar Zero will listen for the correct note. If you get it right, your score increases and you get another note. This continues until you select another game or exit by pressing the spacebar.

Guitar Zero works by monitoring the line-in jack, expecting your guitar to be plugged directly into your computer. It has automatic gain control so it should work with any guitar, not just mine as tested. It might work with the microphone, but I have not tested that - now that I think of it, I'd better test that configuration.

Anyway, there you have it - an improved Guitar Zero for everyone. Enjoy!

Yep, it works fine with the microphone.

It's time for an update. There's a bunch of new features, I forget how many but a lot since version 17. If you found Guitar Zero useful, then you'll want to grab the update.

Note that I'm no longer saying that it works with the microphone because some users are getting horrible feedback problems and chords are not recognized properly on the mic anyway. So use the line-in jack or a proper sound card. Guitar Zero has automatic gain control on it's input (all done with Ugens), so it should adjust to your levels.

Just doing my part to make the world better for guitarists everywhere!
