Guitarsynth.

Put a clean real guitar signal (preamped) into input 1.
you'll probably have to adjust some levels (threshold/filterfreq/compressor outputlevel)

you can only play monophonic (if you want good pitchtracking)
mostly full-amplitude distorted sounds.

Hi Edo good to see you here !

Can't try the patch now, but I'm sure it's good :-)

welcome Edo, great to have you here.

There is a lot of interest amoung guitar players about using the G2 as a guitar processor. Would you be able to record an mp3 file or two that demonstrates your patch?

The G2 (engine or keyboard) pretty much renders the guitar effects processing board obsolete. The FX groups makes the majority of mainstream guitar pedals redundant (, except for niche ones like some overdrives or the agonizer pedals, etc.) You can build, mix, match, have analog control via the knobs AND save it all when you're done. Plus the G2 engine is smaller than some of the equivalent gadgets. I remember messing with the 80's yamaha processors and the digitech RP series effects boards in the 90's...they can't compare in flexibility and real time control.

intriguing...does the G2 have an effective distortion/amp simulator module?

Heres a demo of variaiton 5 i think. This patch produces some very warm, thick bass. I could not get the "lead" variations to work, but this may be due to my lack of a direct box or pre-amp.
This riff was played on the low E and A strings, I found the best response came from the lowest strings.

perhaps something could be built, but not an out-of-the-box module. some unique overdrives can be made, but you're not going to replicate a mesa-boogie head, marshall stack, or fender twin reverb. IMHO, a G2 is definetly worth trading an effects board for, but not necessarily an amp. (actually...i did sell my amp to help get my G2 keyboard Shocked )

Here's a track i made using this patch. I ran my guitar three times through the patch (dubbing). two times using variation 1, one time using variantion 2. Recoding done in Live. Drums (a though edit) using linndrum samples. all is fattened quite some using compression (no G2).

It starts a bit slowish but nice things happen along the road.

Cool patch indeed, it might help sell G2's :-)

Wel it's not realy a finnished track. realy not actualy. It's about the sound right. Yes, people who want a cool guitarsound might be interrested in this. I think NI's Guitar Rig is currently the best guitarprocessing ware around, though. I don't know if it has a synth with pitchfollwoing though....

though i ought to go to bed (3:34 AM)

Very Cool! Being a guitarist for many years, I can't wait to try it out.
You guys are right. It might help sell G2s. The great sound sample had some sounds you could never get out of the latest Moog pedal, which I almost bought, but realized I had to let go of the guitar to get to the soundscape I wanted and bought a G2X. Thanks for sharing!

Makes me think of the group Ratatat... has anyone else listened to them? I am guessing that they use this kind of guitar and bass processing a lot. I've listened to their album a lot since I bought it about a year ago - great stuff.

heeeey Ratatat are from Brooklyn!! Just like me. Anyway, it's funny that you mention them. a couple of months ago, they just finished touring in Australia and New Zealand. It's funny to think a band like this that doesn't have top 40 stature can really do some globetrotting in their career. Gives me hope. blackdiamond13 @ Jemsite
