It's a memorial to soldiers lost in World War 1, and pre-dates New Zealand's conversion to the metric system. This is why the figures are in Imperial.

Description:

Inland part of the Whanganui River. It goes back a long way in the hills. The bridge in the picture is the Railway Bridge.

The main CBD area of Wanganui. Lots of nice trees in town, and we're at the height of summer, so they all have leaves to provide some cool shade.

Description:

In the top, FAR distance is my suburb (Castlecliff), and to the left is the Heads Road Industrial Park, around the bit with the tall building. The bridge pictured is the Motorway Bridge. (Seriously, the motorway is JUST that bridge.)

Description:

There is a second, smaller tower next to the War Memorial tower. It actually houses the Durie Hill Lift, which is built into the hill and (along with a tunnel at the bottom) provides an easy way for pedestrians to get to or from town. There is a staircase

Wanganui East. I'm guessing they probably get grumpy that their suburb is just 'Wanganui East', as opposed to Aramoho, Castlecliff, Gonville, or Springvale.
