Can anyone recommend some small, portable (not studio or rack mounted) (pocket or almost hand-held sized) Midi mergers?

I know Anatek used to make one, but I don't think they are around any more.

Who else makes these?

I need a 4 inputs minimum, and would prefer some filtering or midi procesing capabilites, if any of these samll ones have this kind of power.

Can these be powered just from the 5V Midi line ?

Maybe something like this : http://www.midi-classics.com/h/h6679.htm

Typing "midi merger" into google gives a lot of hits, but not many usefull ones I believe.

An Emagic AMT4 would have everything your looking for. I have the AMT8 (8 ins & outs), but I know they make a small 4in/out version. USB interface, but can operate in stand-alone mode merging/routing/filtering. It can store 16 or so of these maps selectable while in stand-alone mode. It also automatically detects which device is sending clock, and broadcasts it to the other ports.

Sounds like the Midi Solutions quadra merge is the way to go for you.
I have a couple of these and never had any problems.

I don't know how smart it is to merge four midi data flows.

Sometimes it's not only smart but may be necessary.
Suppose you have multiple midi controllers, such as a keyboard, a fader box, a sequencer, and a drum pad. And you have a couple of sound modules you would like to control from any or all of the controllers. Then you need to merge the streams.
In my studio I have 16 things that can be midi sources, and 20 things that can be destinations. Any of the sources can control any of the destinations, without reconfiguring hardware or cables. The network is based on midi merges and switches, no computer. Maybe one of these days I'll post a diagram up here.

I guess many are both sources and destinations.
