The recent Bent 2006 has left me craving a European festival of a similiar nature... anyone know if it exists this side of the atlantic?

there are these guys in Helsinki : association of experimental electronics ... they are really nice . so there must be others also.

I'm serious whit this - i would love go to a festival dedicated to bending - so if there just ain't any - lets make one -

I'm working in one sound and light company so i could arrange and bring all the sound and light hardware we need . if held in Helsinki - but i would be more than happy to come to Sweden whit my toys - where in Sweden do you live?

That link was awesome, wonderful pics!!!

I live in Norrköping, its about two hours train ride from Stockholm. I don't think I can afford to travel further than that, unfortunately.

I'll try surfing around some swedish internet (my swedish sucks) and see if some circuit benders exist anywhere!

I haven't bent anything yet, but I have some toys lying around just waiting to get bent soon. Casio SA-10, SmartStart, and some "animal keyboards". I have no idea how though... Rolling Eyes

Norrköping is nice Cool not far from Katrineholm where I live. From here it's just an hour by train to sthlm. Razz

Hejsan!
it's nice to see that there are some swedes into this sort of thing! I can't really offer much advice for those keyboards, apart from just open them up and start exploring Smile This wikipedia article has a couple of tips to get started, and you should check out this very complete guide (probably too much information!) It really is as simple as just touching things with a piece of wire!

As there doesn't appear to be many circuit benders in sweden, it might be useful to have a workshop where people bend some things and can get advice and tips.

Do you know anyone else who might be interested in some circuit bending, DIY stuff and experimental electronic instruments? Links to any swedish websites would be cool, I find it hard to surf to those as my swedish is kinda sucky.

bending is much more fun if you just follow your instincts and don't read any how to's - when you find the glitch you will value it more - and eventually you will find it. so grab those alligator grips - go bend.

maybe we could hold a bend meeting in sthlm. i will ask the boys from "association of experimental electronics" if they are interested. do you know any good place in sthlm where we could set our instruments?

the trick behind cheap travelling between sthlm and helsinki is that you Hitchhike to turku where the ferry goes first to Åland (the little island between SWE and FIN) and then to sthlm - so you buy the ticket to Åland and then fall in sleep. when you wake you are in sthlm.Smile

I can ask some friends in Stockholm about finding a venue, and perhaps a place to sleep.

Please do ask the association of experimental electronics for some more information! I am impressed by the pictures on their homepage, and have wanted to get involved with a group like this for ages. While surfing around their site, I found pics and photos from a workshop/exhibition held in Malmö last year, it looked awesome! On this page it says that they are planning a circuitbending workshop in Gavle, Sweden for 2006. Do you think you can ask and find out some more information about this?

I know that there has been a circuit bending workshop at lava in kulturhuset in stockholm about a year ago, so there must be some circuit benders here in sweden... Rolling Eyes

A bending meeting in sthlm would be great! Very Happy I'll come. But I have no idea where Razz

Actually, lava is kind of good. It has a little scene, a café and a lot of tables for pottering. Very Happy I've been there once on a poetry slam (or I dunno what it's called). Embarassed

I don't know if you have to book it to arrange something there... Confused

I'm in Copenhagen.

There are a few benderes / experimenters in Denmark.

From june 1. to 11. there's is the Halfmachine event in Copenhagen

http://halfmachine.info/

I will be there some of the time. I't will be like a workshop where the audience is invited to bend stuff. I will also be playing some live sets with a copule of other noise heads.

Lots of other interesting things will be going on.

But it would be nice with a Scandinavian festival.

oh crap i would love to come - but now i just found out that i will travel to Denmark but not Copenhagen - Århus June 2. Smile so I'm pretty close but not enough - at Århus there is a festival SPOT12 an i will do some light stuff for Aavikko.
next day we fly to Haarlem-Netherlands another festival there at patronaat
and then back home.. if we just had some extra days in Denmark...

I like circuitbending and a friend of mine likes it a lot, I guess that if a festival like the Bent one in the US would be organized in Europe, we would be ready to take a car and drive there.

There are plenty more people interested in circuit bending in Holland and aren't the guys from TableHoot/WarrantyVoid from Germany????

http://users.informatik.haw-hamburg.de/~windle_c/TableHooters/index.html

They should be interested in organizing or at least helping out for a European bent event!

Cool! I hope we can create something like the Bent festival!!! I imagine it should have a tutorial section for beginners (like a workshop), a lot of bending and making instruments and chat and socialisation, and perhaps talks or performances by famous characters. Any ideas for content would be really welcome!

I'm not sure whether to focus on a workshop, where those new to bending would get tutorials and tips and gear to work on, or a sort of meet-up for those already into it, where they can perform, show off their gear and just party with similiar people.. what do you all think?

Hi! I´m new around here..
(though I´ve been readin peoples stuff for a while)
It´s an excellent idea to do something in the stockholm area!
I´ve got two ideas about venues for gigs, one is my favourite bar
Ugglan, that regularly perform off the beaten track/freejazz/electronics/odd acts (played there myself..)
The other is the very small club I run myself with a couple of friends, once a month; OBS! Kulturkvarten.
It definately is doable to have a small festival/insane-DIY-noise-weekend around here sometime.

Hi, I am Antti from Association of experimental electronics. First of all, we will love to come to a festival, we do need some time to arrange things, so we need to know the dates well in advance.

We could arrange something in Helsinki as well. Could be nice to arrange something small first, or try to do it in the framework of some existing festivals.

Is there enough time to get things organised by August?

I am not sure what 'something small' really means, in this context Smile I've no idea how many people are actually interested, I guess quite a lot of beginners would come if they knew what it was about, and there are already several circuit benders from sweden and further abroad that say they are interested. Maybe it is not yet a festival, but it's probably a good party...

Well august is a bit busy for us, we will have a workshop in Århus Danmark 7-11.8, and we have couple of projects in Helsinki as well. For us the early september might look better.

Time for arranging depends also on how we want to finance the thing. No budget things can be done quite fast, but if money is needed it will take more time.

I will talk with some people, and think of different possibilities.

there is also a dorkbot community in sthlm.
have anyone hear of these dorkbot-people?

"people doing strange things with electricity"
sounds good to me - take a look:

Well, I have been working to start the dorkbot Helsinki, I just have not had the time to do it. Just last week things have started to organize. I know there will be one event on January, it will be organized as a part of katastro.fi monthly events.

Today I talked about arranging something this summer in Happihuone in töölönlahti. It is a funny summercafe near center of Helsinki. We could have some kind of weekend circuitbending workshop there.

And to answer your question, I do not know anybody from the dorkbot thing, I have never been to any event, but I am going to start organizing some events, because I like to do strange things with electricity.

I think different doerbots have quite different things going on, but this Helsinki thing, if I get it workindg, will concentrate on experimental audioelectronics and circuitbening.
