My bedroom setup. I work standing up, which works surprisingly well - possibly because I rarely do long sessions. I turned my Ikea Ivar shelf into a probably not very practical rack. It was a little bit too narrow, so I chiseled it out - I felt like doing a bit of carpentry anyway

Leave it to Greg to Flaunt those Lava Lamps! Here's some shots of my new studio space since the move. A lot has been added and a lot has happened since 2005. I have a new project/ band called Dymaxion Vehicle and we're working on an album here...partly why I haven't been around here much. The studio also has a new name: Little Blackwing..after Daniel Millers studio where many of the original Mute label artists got their start.
I forgot to uncover a few things! My midi controller is in front of the main computer and the Novation Nova is under the red bandanna!

Good think you didn't post an mp3 or we wouldn't get the full fidelity of that sample. _________________ --Howard

"my music center" ?
i messed up mine and want to make it run again but i have totally no idea where which wires once have been connected.
thanks

After the flood Subject description: a new approach to my studio layout |
|
|
My studio had become quite claustrophobic for a number of reasons. To setup speakers for surround-sound work was highly compromised, and the room had also insidiously become a storeroom for a lot of non-music related bookshelves, furniture, etc.
On July 2nd, we had a rain shower that produced 7" in one hour. While my house has never had any water in it, the rain actually pushed water UP through the foundation drain. The water seeped into the studio and soaked the carpet. Despite my efforts to get the carpet dried out, it was soaked and had to be replaced.
Thus, I had to clear out the room for the carpet work and this presented an opportunity to rethink everything.
For starters, much of the old furniture will not go back into the studio. Also, I have some legacy recording equipment that I will store and only bring out when needed.
The next challenge was to design the space to support my current work -- which is in surround sound and utilizes the theremin. I struggled with a good layout.
The solution, as it turns out, is a change of philosophy. My old approach was that everything had to be instantly available. My new approach is to have everything easily available. That is, the equipment that is in use for the current project is instantly available, everything else is set back on another "tier". If I need to use my modular synth or VZ1, I need only move the K2600 keyboard aside. (All my racks are on furniture sliders -- which makes them easy to move around.) That's right, even my three-tier rack is on furniture sliders and I can easily slide it out from the wall for service.
When they showed me carpet samples, purple was the most interesting color (among the carpet that was in my price range). I figured purple would be kind of fun and would look good with all the led's and my K2600's purple case.
As of yesterday, I am back "up and running"! _________________ -- Kevin

I moved the studio downstairs and screwed the cabinets to the wall a while ago and I'm really satisfied with the result! The Klee sequencer has the position in the front so I can connect it to most modules. The MFOS sequencers and SL's are to the left. The new cabinet to the right contains 3 CGS Quad Logic gates (XOR, NOR and NAND) and some inverters, CGS cascade mixer, multiples, Parts of the Tellun Dunsel, inverting DC mixers, Yusynth Min-Max processor, SN-Voice, 3xCGS Synthacon VCF. Next is the 281 clone, MFOS Dual AR and two Envylopes.

I had a question? Subject description: questions about the BOSS BR-532 Digital Studio |
|
|
I would like some tips for getting started on using the BOSS BR-532 Digital Studio. I do not know where my manual is and I don't have a DVD with tutorials.
Are there sites where I might be able to download the manual .. or maybe some free clips about how to use this piece of equipment?
Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
Oh and I didn't know if I should start this topic all by itself .. but I just felt that those people who are participating already in this thread might possibly have some knowledge of the BR-532.
Thanks again. |

Thanks. Google wasn't much help but I appreciate your reply. I was lucky enough to find this ---> http://www.geocities.com/sixtyfourguitars/BossBr/BR532.html ... it has the manual in .pdf
(I had accidently misplaced it.)
This is a nice thread. Cool pictures! |

From the looks of it (behind the turntables), it's an award winning studio! |

My first post here, although I've been lurking for a while...
That was taken a while back, I'm currently using my Andromeda and EX7. The way I have things arranged at the moment isn't exactly ideal, I don't have a great deal of room so I can't have all my synths set up at the same time... That'll be changing sometime in the coming months as I'm going to totally rearrange everything, redecorate and get a whole load of proper furniture. |
