OK I found these patches on my harddrive (hope I got the right ones) and none of these would convert. All gave an error message like this:
--------------------
"00patches/SawVoc.pch"
added missing [Header]
IndexError('list index out of range',)
--------------------

However by just opening the patch in NM1 copying it to another slot (using standard copy and paste in the GUI) and then saving the patch back to disk I got patches that could be converted.

All three works fine on my G2.

Could this suggest that old files - made on early versions of Modular - are different in such a way they can not be converted as is with g2ools? I'm pretty sure these are rather old patches.

I use NM 3.03 and the one and only OS X version of the editor anyway.

There are quite noticeable differences between how the patches sound on G2. I believe there are many causes for this.
1. Input level from the AD
2. How the vocoders work - the G2 version seems to capture more detail producing a harder sound.
3. The expander section seems to work quite differently.

Anyway - hope this helps in some way. I include all the files in this post.

And once again, great work, I'm so happy with this little app.

The originals are 2.10 patches, by saving them from the 3.03 editor they were converted to 3.03 (no need to use the slot trick, just load and save from 3.03 will do the trick).

Funny thing though is that the 2.10 original patches do not open in my 3.03 editor - and I see no good reason for that.

Ah well, you got it converted.

For 2.10 patches, I ended finding (somewhere here or on the net) a version 3.0 editor and using that for the convertion because 3.03 doesn't not seem to load 2.10 patches. I suppose adding support for 2.10 in g2ools may be a good idea but there is just not enough patches that would make it worth the time.

You guys are absolute champions!! This has helped me out in a huge way..

There are 3 other patches I forget to add.

Pulse Vocoder
Simple Vocoder
Vocoder Lead

I've added the files, does someone mind converting these for me? I'm on OSX, and just can't get my head around using the convertor..
Cheers,
Jonny

There are ~3 other OSX users here who have used the converter.
Axiom, 3phase, and hmm, who is the other one?
If you look back through the threads, you will find out how they overcame the mac problems.
Search for mac or OSX in the threads- I'm sure you'll find their posts.

Uh... no.

I mean using Mac Python/Convertor. I've read ALL the posts on using it with OSX. There is a separate thread related to it, but still no luck.

2.5
I can't open the "terminal" to start off with. On my old G5 (now on intel) I got to the end of the process and then it wigged out at the last step.. Now I can't even begin the process. Not sure where the "terminal" is.

Can you ask a co-worker or friend who has a mac?

There's got to be millions of online Mac forums- somewhere.

I'm a Windows user-with a little Linux experience.

The only other NM1 patches I'm ever going to need are the 3 I posted before.
If someone can convert them for me I'd be mucho appreciative.

It's good to know that this problem really isn't specific to g2ools, and that there is a whole universe of (non-programmer) functionality waiting for you if you could just get a cmd prompt (referred to as the Terminal) in the other posts. You might be impressed what you could do with the OSX shell- with music/midi/audio programs, for example.

These 3 patches failed conversion for me.
"Vocoder lead.pch"
--------------------
Failed patches:
PulseVoc.pch
SimpleVocoder.pch
Vocoder lead.pch

Can't look into it now, I'm at work.
Let qfingers know- it might be a problem with g2ools.

Sorry, I think you have to open then in a newer version of NM1 editor then save them again. I've done this so hopefully they should work this time..
Here are the newer versions.
Cheers,
Jonny

BTW- you should get into the habit of not having spaces in the filenames.
It confuses programs that accept arguments on the command line, like g2ools. Putting quotes around each of the patch names is tedious, and not necessary, if you avoid spaces. Underscores work just as easy, and are easy on the eyes too.

Thanks heaps for that anyway.

I've just compared the original NM1 patch against the converted patch, and HEAPS of new modules hace been added. The only one I couldn't work out was the formant OSC, but now there's all the original modules plus Invert, Rnd Clk, Mix4, Constsw, Note Quant, Ratio, Env Follow.

Something tells me that's not quite right...
Def doesn't sound right.

I think that was my goof.
The first time I ran your old patches, I used *.pch.
The second time I manually put quotes around each patchname.
I *may* have copied the wrong patches.

Will try again when I get home- about 2 hours from now
