What's a semi working NL2 worth? |
 |
|
*Appologies for the sudden abundance of posts. I am just very frustrated! It seems like I keep getting ripped off with music gear
I bought a Nord Lead 2 on the weekend. At first it seemed ok but then I
noticed there were some issues with it. The guy selling it didn't seem
to have a clue about synths. The bastard is reluctant to give me a
full refund but he has conceded to refund me the difference of
whatever I sell it for.
I bought it for $600 so now I have to figure out what a fair price to
sell it is.
Here are the issues:
-Only 8 notes polyphony instead of 16
-Freezes during demo mode
-Occasionally freezes if you hold down a multinote unison chord for a
long time while in performance mode.
All knobs, buttons, keys work fine. All outputs ok as well. You can
still play this and use the 8 notes available like a normal synth. So
basically it is still better than a nord lead 1 but not as good as a
full nord lead 2.
What is a fair price to sell this for? |

You can offer it to a repair shop and ask the guy to pay this...
Offer it as a controller keyboard for $150.- and get $450.- from the guy...
Sell it to yourself for this amount and collect $450.-
What ever comes up in your mind...

That is odd, a VA missing half it's voices
I see the spec says maximum 16 voices, what normal conditions reduce that number, loading more than one slot? |

I found a fault on the DSP board. It was caused by the PCB board
flexing from where the ribbon cable for the front panel controls
connects. It is a bad design to not have support standoffs next to
this point.
Eitherway all the problems are gone and I have the full 16 voices again |

I just wanted to reiterate what Wout's quote stated - reseating the connectors is the first thing to try in this case.
Well, maybe second or third - point being - do not try to resolder the DSP chips. On rare occasions, one or two leads from a surface mount chip will come loose - but this is rare, and takes a lot of experience to repair. It's not terribly difficult if you know what you're doing, but most people who are capable of resolderring such a chip Do Not need someone to suggest doing it.
I'd also suggest a hard reset, but with a quick google search, i came up with nothing for the nord lead series. Perhaps the manual mentions something?
If not, perhaps a quick trip to the clavia website would be helpful, there's a page for technical help where you enter all your info and get a response.
Also, are you using this on it's own? If this is your first synth, and you're connecting it to a computer for sequencing, etc... there may be some problems there. If so, use it without midi connected, and report back.
Try these things, and if you get antsy waiting for the response, then unplug your keyboard's power, and carefully reseat the internal connectors.
Heck, you can even do that first, just don't approach your Nord's DSP chips with a solderring iron! |

1 there is a cable inside not connected right. Open the red hood by unscrewing the four screws at the back, the one of the same size at the bottom and at both sides only the ones at the front (just unscrew the two with the washers a little: they keep the hood in place so the cables are safe) Check all connectors.
2 the synth might receive a lot of Midi information at that moment and
3 in your studio some other machine suddenly uses a lot of power to which the power supply of the Lead is very sensitive...
BTW, I didn't knew one can scroll through the Demo Songs, although it isn't information you'll daily need. | There was something nerving in all those posts...
