I was fed up with the quicktime player on my pc and thought that the only advantage it has over winamp is that it starts playing an mp3 immediately without first downloading it. But when the mp3 URL is inside a m3u file winamp can stream the mp3 and start playing it immediately. So I made the following batch file

Code:
@echo off
set tm3u=e:\temp\wam.m3u
echo %1>%tm3u%
start %tm3u%

and told firefox to play mp3s with that batch file.

My problem seems solved.

A temporary m3u file is created here in e:\temp, pick your own favorite location here, and then that temprary m3u is played using start meaning that windows picks your fav program for playing it, for me that's winamp.

Just copy the code above into a file called mp3-stream.bat (or whatever name you prefer) and save that file somewhere such that you can find it back.

Damn Embarassed ... I didn't look good enough and tested on the local area network ... it does not work ... it still copies the file of course and it would need to pass on th URL to the batch file ...

Not giving up yet though ... meanwhile https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/81 does the trick but not the way I want it to work ... it needs a selection from a popup menu, and I want a default action as well. Evil or Very Mad
