Subject description: And: What happens when you switch on your Lead/Rack 2X ?

I recently bought a new Lead 2X and there were some "strange" effects in the first days: sudden change of the value in the display or "self-changing" of parameters without turning the knobs... OK that is up to now not reproducable.

But today I observed the following: I plugged in a MIDI-In cable in the 2X (connected with the MIDI-OUT of a Masterkeyboard). When turning the Power ON on the 2X the display showed sometimes "0", sometimes nothing and the whole device was "dead". When I disconnected the MIDI cable, the 2X went on normally. After re-connecting of the MIDI cable the problem was there again.
I was not able to reproduce this fault again...

After turning off ALL the devices and switching off the main power and re-starting all my keyboards the 2X started normally - with MIDI-IN connected...

Another interesting thing: What happens if you switch the power on at your 2X?
At my device normally the display "starts" first with "1.00" then "nL2" and finally the last program number. But sometimes some LEDs (but each time different) glow up first, sometimes for a short moment the last program number appears.

My questions:
- Is that behaviour with the MIDI connection "normal"? Did that happen to you some time?
- What happens if you switch the power on at your 2X? (Display, LEDs...)

Thanks a lot for your advices (and of course: I still have guarantee...)

You have switched into a test mode by pressing [Shift+LFO1 wave form] and you have an instable pot, mostly the one next to the power supply.

Most Nord gear is very sensitive to incoming Midi when booting. The Lead3 surely crashes… The Lead2X is a little more stable.

But no Midi data send on that moment, like clock signals or whatever…

The CPU first find out what version of the software is present. After that it will search for the Wheel and PitchStick. When not available, she tells you she is a Rack [nr2], but when available, she knows she’s a key version, a [nL2], which yours is, apparently Smile

My answers:
- Yes, that Midi behavior is normal, in a way… It’s something like a bug, like the humming of the power supply.
- I wrote that above Smile

If not, you can always give it to me as a present Wink

Thank you Wout for your quick answer!

I was in doubt because my 6 year old second-hand Rack 2X didn't show such strange MIDI-"dropouts" or parameter-changing at all!

But I was also a bit surprised by the fact that the 2X often boots in a different or "random" way: Normally with the version no. but often also first with some (more or less random) LEDs, or with some "hieroglyphics" in the display.
Is that still "normal" or is my 2X a real lemon?

Funny...
There are still things I discover using the synth more than a decade now Smile
Indeed, the LED's are lit in a random way right after the power switch is pressed. Totally random, sometimes none, sometimes more than ten...

Should be normal!

I noticed the Unison-WheelFilter combination and the none appears most.

Wout

It could be a secret code to rule the world, though...

Hi together - just for information: I changed my Nord Lead on guarantee - and up to now the new device seems to behave "normal": no strange effects, no blackouts and so on.
I assume the first Lead had some "electronical indisposition" - in the end it is just a computer!

But the "light show" of the LEDs during the boot sequence remains special.

Have a good summer!
