That reminded me... I need more iPads. Shocked

So.. do I get an iPad 2 this time or do I wait for the iPad 3? Feb24?

If I get an iPad in Feb. it will be an iPad 2 because the introduction of the iPad 3 will drive iPad 2 prices down. But no doubt your needs/desires are different than mine.

I recently finished my first Lemur setup. Some might have seen me post about it on Spacebook. It has 24 faders,8 multisliders,3 switches,7 trigger pads, and 4 x/y pads (each with 3 physics multisliders) Currently controlling xils 3 and 4 channels on Machfive3 just for a start.Me likey!
It's fairly straightforward programming its, obvious that Touch OSC "borrowed" liberally from it.It hooked up with my wireless router pretty effortlessly, but I've had some problem getting it to talk to my Missing Link that's built into my live rack.Since I have a gig coming up next week I've had to put that problem on the back burner.(Actually since I'll be using the Alesis iODOCK it may well be completely unnecessary)
My use of it so far is pretty simplistic,sliders,buttons,X/Y pads. The physics controls really make the X/Y pads shine! With the right settings you can get the ball orbiting your touch point and then move that around the pad making for a pretty crazy modulation.I like routing that to 2 oscillator frequencies going through a ring modulator. You can also set the ball in motion and get it to keep moving indefinitely for a hands off modulation.I'm quite exited about the future possibilities of this even just at this simple level, let alone if I can gather up the brain cells to grok the scripting. There are a lot of downloadable setups and objects that are downloadable from the user library which can be very helpful. If you have an iPad I don't think there is anything more powerful as far as controllers go,especially if you use virtual instruments on a computer or have hardware that suffers from a dearth of knobs.

Wow that is sharp looking. I bought Lemur last week but haven't gotten into programming it yet. Maybe this week.

Yeah,it took me a while too.I started and got the controls placed, and configured about 3 or 4 of them so I knew I had that part figured out,and then I got a new mixer and ended up spending a while reconfiguring all my effects sends before I got back to it.The thing that's good about it is that it's fairly easy in its most basic applications (what I've done) but you can go as deep as you want.(some of the stuff that Bob The Dog was talking about) It's a really beautiful thing.I haven't been this excited about a new piece of gear since I got my first Nord Modular.

One of the first things I want to program is a simple light controller. I have several AMDJ Midi-Paks which are midi contralabe light packs. Each light is assinged a note and the notes velocity determines the lights brightness. I figure this should be easy enough to do with Lemur.

That Lemur setup looks nice!

I may have asked this before, but, is it possible to run a basic synth app in the iPad at the same time as Lemur, for testing one's Lemur setup while one is away from the regular synth rig?

You should be able to,but for some reason when I just tried it,it didn't work.I AM,however, running Lemur and AniMoog at the same time, but I'm not controlling AniMoog with Lemur,I'm using an external Keyboard through the computer/interface/Alesis iODOCK.When I disconnected it and changed the settings it didn't work.Animoog appeared in the menu, but I'm not getting any sound out.I'll have to futz with it and get back to you,I have a gig tomorrow and don't have time right now.

It's the same docking port that an iPod or iPhone has.It comes with a cable that has a usb on the other end. It's made to exchange files and such through iTunes, but I know there are apps out there that work with it that basically tell your computer that it's a usb drive so you could conceivably forgo itTunes if you didn't want to use it.
(at least there are for the iPhone,I assume they work with the pad too.)

If I had one, I'd want to hook it up to one of my Linux machines. No iAnything. That's why I wanted to know if it has a USB port. If it identifies itself as a USB device, should be no trouble.

I'm thinking it might not, otherwise there probably wouldn't be a need for 3rd party apps to exchange files? I could be wrong about that, but you'd have to ask a non Mac guy since I've never hooked it up to anything else Confused

When you plug the iPad, or iPhone into a windows PC with the USB cable all you get to see are the pictures .. maybe there are tools to get more, but thats what it looks like here.

I found the program I was thinking about on Macupdate:

http://www.mupromo.com/deal/1794/diskaid

I don't think it would be of any help even if you did have a Windoz PC.It allows you to transfer files and folders to and from the iDevice, you can transfer music FROM the device, but can only transfer music TO the device with iTunes. You wouldn't likely be able to install any apps,so,in short,if you wanna use an iPad,(or iPod or iPhone) you gotta use iTunes.
