Finally finished this up so I could get some plastic case work to brush up before attacking my x0xb0x case...

This is either the J3RK Dual Mirror Core VCO or the Stroh Modular Dual Complex VCO. I'm not really sure which. Originally the thread was labeled as per the former, but as things progressed the name morphed to the latter. Either way, it's a really cool collection of vcos and utility modules, with which you can build the complex vco of your choice!
I tried out Front Panel Express's new standoff utility thing, and it worked well, mostly - I had one break off soon after transporting it from my heated studio area to my unheated garage where the soldering happens. No problem though - a little JB Weld and we're back in business. |

I am very impressed with this build. This Dual VCO looks extremely versatile to ! Lots of luck with this one. Too bad about the standoff issue but looks like you had the quick fix at hand. I have seen the new versions of FPE software with added manufacturing options. Will have to check these out

Eurorack MFOS SoundLab (72h) with some extras, like inverted outputs on LFO and AR, triangle outputs for both VCOs and exponential voltage control for VCF and VCA.
The skirts round the switches are there because I drilled the wrong sized holes. They are made from some screw hole covers I had left over from a flat pack bookcase.
The Stig sticker is not staying, and the sellotape on the corners is just there to protect them while I work on it.
The yellow blobs are two transistors and a tempco, glued together and coated with heat sink compound, then encased in heat shrink sleeving. This has given an improvement over having them separately, but in practice the de-tune is still noticeable as my room warms up.
Some of the pots are damaged and I am going to replace the lot. I think it was because I was working on it face down and the shafts have been pushed it, so I have ordered a different type to replace it them. _________________ Stephen

Very nice work.
I once had tracking issues with a SLMS and contacted Ray about it, and he basically said you're lucky to get much of anything. Turns out I was able to find a subtle error later that made my problem much less, but I never did a temp test, and I wouldn't be surprised if it still drifted some. |

Finally finished my Jürgen Haible Tau Phaser with THAT 300 chips (using self made converter sockets):
And a detail shot of the THAT 300s (can't find the solo pics of the converter sockets on my hard drive):

I wanted to use it as a sequencer voice, but it still drifts and doesn't track too well, so I have pretty much given up on that idea and will have to build a couple of VCO modules.
All is not lost though, I had originally planned to build one of Rays sawtooth to triangle circuits as an external module, but as they are so simple I decided to build one onto each VCO and I am glad that I did, because now I can use them a VCLFOs.
I haven't built that bit yet, and I am going to have to modify it to make it DC coupled, and that will required a bit of fiddling, but it shouldn't be that difficult.
And just to be a heretic, I use a PIC to control my sequencer... <GASPS> and that has a spare timer output which is just begging to be used as a sound source and I think that is going to be my solution there. Yes I know its only square out, but put it through 4 stages of dividing and sum them together with the right resistors and it can produce a barely passable triangle and ramp if you squint. _________________ Stephen

The black boxes are the digital pt2399 based spring emulators - the brick selection on the switches - the springs are mounted in my cabinet, and connect through those minijacks hanging out in the back. |
