After digging deeper and deeper in programming the NW, I am more and more pleased with the sounds, especially when mixing the samples with FM sounds.
But I wrote angry emails to Clavia over a two bugs that annoyed me. From the answer, I realized that it was part of the OS.
1. The two slots are not independent of each other, like in G2 or NL3. Changing sound in one slot always change the sound in the other. Only way to avoid it is to make a "performance" of, say one pad and one solo sound. But changing from strings to a moogpad while keeping the same solo sound can not be done.
2. The FX area is monotimbral, and reads the slot that are "in focus". It means that the fat moog lead looses its distortion and delay, or the smooth pad gets it.
This is a serious limitation when using the NW on stage, compared to the NL3 that has four independent slots.
So, if you want to change sounds during the song on stage, you will have problems.
It was not what I expected from Clavia.

Just some thoughts...

I think that's the way Clavia sees the synth: a one Slot machine with another Slot as an extra. More related to the Stage?

Regarding the NL's don't have any FX, the same happens there. An FX to every output is the solution. Does the Wave has more then one stereo output? I don't have the Manual at hand, but isn't there an output routing?

Maybe a Nord Wave 2 soon? Wink

Hi Wout, nice to hear from you.
There is no routing and only one stereo out. No hard panning as in the NE.
I also belive it is meant to be a stage instrument, and the choice of samples (mellotron, accordion, strings) indicates that the typical setup is a NordElectro or NordStage, with the NW as a addition. with some vintage and contemporary sounds.
But the slot problem appears on stage, when there is a hurry and bad light. In the studio, you got all the time you need to select the right sound.
And all that is needed to change this is programming, so I do hope Clavia think this over once more.
I have used the NW with to different bands now, and amplified, it sounds quite different to my old NL3. It might be how i programmed it, but it has a bite that can cut through, and a lot of energy in the low mid area that I associates to old synths of the 70ies. It is quite easy to get convincing moog sounds out of it, for example.
The opposite is the polite Roland Synths, that sounds great in the studio but turns in to mist when attacked of live drums, guitars and so on.
