NordWest05 (WA) & BC (Canada) G2 user meet [w/ pch2 & mp3] |
 |
|
Hey there,
mosc came up with a great idea, that we should do a NorthWest (Oregon, Washington, British Columbia) meet.
I just met Mosc in person this weekend, and meeting other users is a
great experience, thus this idea for a NorthWest meet.
Let me know if you are interested and where you're located. I do not have a car thus if someone from BC is interested let me know too.
Let discuss the potential location and date. Tweak away ...

I'm in Seattle but I'm totally okay with a BC meetup now that I've got my passport. It's a lovely area so I'm always looking for excuses to go up there. About the date I've really got nothing going over the next two months except for the weekend of Sept 9th... I'll be in Vegas on the 8th and 9th, flying back on the morning of the 10th then Monolake is giving a performance in Seattle that evening which I can't miss. I guess maybe I'll go to some of the Decibel events here on Sept 22-25, although it's not so vital (I'd like to see Akufen and Tipper, but yeah I could miss it). Otherwise I'm flexible.

Piping up from Eugene, OR: hell, yeah!
Do we need passports to get out of the US into Canada now? Thought they hadn't implemented that yet. |

Actually the difficulty isn't getting into Canada, it's getting back into the US. Your birth certificate will do also, although that's tough for most adults to dig up. The thing is, the border patrol and INS can't expect even a reasonable percentage of US citizens to have passports since it's never really been part of our culture to have one. I've definitely gotten an earful from the US border patrol over not having proof of citizenship (even pre-9/11), but after a few minutes of questioning they let me go through. At the time I actually had the passport on order, I've found that it's useless to order one when planning a trip because it never arrives in time, best to order it when you don't need it. Now is always the best time to start the process. A passport's biggest feature for those who don't travel overseas is reduced harassment from authorities, I use it as ID for all domestic flights for that reason.
Anyways, if you can start the process now, go for it. Beyond that I wouldn't be concerned about it. |

Hmm, shame it's not equal. Maybe one day ... |

Guys, the only reason I brought up the passport thing is that I'm not a US citizen (I'm Irish, although I do have a US visa). I didn't think you needed your passport if you had US citizenship ... just a drivers license or ID ????
It takes 6 weeks to get a new Irish passport from the embassy in San Fran, but I also need to get birth and marriage certs from Ireland before they can start the process, hence the 7 weeks I stated in another post.
In any case I'm well up for a meet, but I doubt if anyone will learn anything from me!!!

Grimley, Isn't there a way of getting a temporary passport through customs or a embasy?
In the Netherlands passports take a while too but there is some sort of arangement with the military side of customs (don't knwo the english word or wether it has a equivalent) that can get you a passport substitute in hours. I once looked into this since it for a moment apeared like I might need to go to the U.S. on three days notice. _________________ Kassen |

I didn't really mean to make an issue out of the passport thing, it's not a huge deal. The border patrol will question you more but that's about it. I think Vancouver would still be a decent place to hold the meet. So let's not rule it out. |

Last year I went to Canada with no passport. My driver license was expired - a big mistake on my part. The Canadians asked me a few questions about how old I was, what my address was, what was my citizenship, etc. They let me through but told me not to drive in Canada with an expired driver's license. Getting back into the US was just as easy, but they didn't tell me not to drive...
Really, the Canada/US border is pretty open. _________________ --Howard

I'd love to come up to Vancouver for this. I was actually planning to come up with my wife and son in late August, but that was canceled due to an aging dog (don't f&**ing ask!) |

Hi,
So far its only the 4 of us, which makes it a nice small get-together. I'm sure that Sean Charles (also a Clavia G2/Lead3/Lead2x sounddesigner living in Vancouver) might be interested (but his schedule is very crazy).
Now the question is when and where? Maybe September some time (i'm going on vacation to the Yukon in a week for 9 days)?
We're gonna need amplification/monitoring and mixer (if all of use bring our G2's woth us). My only problem is (and I'm sad to say this) is I do not have any decent aplification and my mixer is pretty old (married life, means giving some things up), and because I have a cat who loves to eat through cables, my gear is inside of a custom closet, so my place is out.
Anyway if someone brings some good monitors and mixer then we should be good.
Let me know what you guys think.

I'm willing to contribute on the equipment front although what I've got is pretty bulky. I have a 16 channel mackie mixer (w/ a little hum), and I have a bulky 2 channel stereo amp and some largish speakers. Technically they will all suffice and can be transported, but just isn't compact.
September for the most part is just fine with me.
I hope we can make this work out, it looks like we've got more than one experienced G2 user in this section of the country. It's great we have this forum but nothing beats hands-on instruction and I was beginning to think the Netherlands had a monopoly on the G2 experts, heh.

I'm up for this.. sorry to have dropped out of the conversation for a bit.
September is OK for me, but October is better. (September is prime camping season down here :') I'd come to Seattle for sure, but I'd prefer Vancouver (have been dying to go, and this would be a great excuse.)
I have a small PA and Mackie mixer that I could probably bring. |

Vancouver, first weekend in October sounds good to me.
I can bring a pair of powered monitors (mackie 824s) but I don't have a mixer (except in software!)
[EDIT] Just read Jamos post above. Maybe the PA would be better? |

Oh well then chances are I'd just do Saturday so that I'm not driving home late on Sunday. It all depends, if we do this in a hotel and it's reasonably priced then I might consider staying through part of Sunday. |
