SPI between processor and panel board? P1+P2?

Hi,

Would it be an idea to have a separate processor that deals specific with just the Panel ( polling the keys, driving the hex digits and the leds + detecting adjustments any panel pot?

The idea is that the separate panel processor ie MSP430/PIC32 is responsible for detecting any change on the panel and it will signal this through one may be several interrupts (different prio's) to the main processor which than will fetch the "cause" of the interrupt via a SPI interface. So the MSP430 or ie PIC32 panel processor acts like a SPI slave unit.

This idea suggestion based on the software OO design principle: tight cohesion loose coupling principle and the following diagram :

Question: anybody knows why these read micro P1 and P2 are used for? During production testing?
