If there are answers in this thread, please try to read this first post before scrolling down if you want to take part in my little experiment.

Attached are three audio files: one with a solitary piano loop, and two where the piano loop is accompanied by beats.

Listen first to the solitary piano thing. If you get an instant feel for what kind of rhythm you think it has, hold on to that feeling. If you don't, try counting along with it and remember where you place the 1, the 2, the 3 and so on.

Now listen to the other two sound clips. Which one fits your experience of the solitary piano clip best? If none of them are what you imagined, do any match your perception of where the beat cycle started and/or how long it was?

Vote in the poll if you want. Smile

Why not both? I'm talking variations in the beat throughout the tune.
Beat 1 sounds good for a main beat. Beat 2 sounds good for breakdown or build-up kinda sections or something.

My 2 cents.

EDIT: If pressed on answering "properly" I guess I'd say Beat 1, so I voted for that in the poll.

I like the first one better, though I felt the stress in the piano on the 1 & 4 rather than the 1 & 3.
