SonVer - electric cellos |
 |
|
Greetings from London!
We are a duo writing and performing music using electric cello and guitar. We use samples and field-recordings as aural scores which we respond to when playing live, and we enjoy working with visual artists too. We have just released our first album and we are playing a lot of dates in the UK - in case anyone is over our side of the pond!
Our music falls in to a few categories I think, but please have a look at our website - www.sonver.co.uk and we are also on myspace at www.myspace.com/sonver . On both sites you can hear some music, we hope you enjoy it.
All the best, and cheers to electro-music.com for your enthusiasm and for a great collective.

Gil Scott-Heron called it the "miscellaneous" section. i.e. "File under miscellaneous" ! |

When you say cheap? how cheap? There are a few electric cellists on fiddleforum.com who may be able to help you.
The only electric cellos I know of are Bridge, Starfish (which Sonver use), Yamaha, Wood.. and they're all pretty expensive really... |

Electric cello for less than 500 euros... can't think of anyting close. You need to quadruple that I think.. Perhaps you may find a nasty chinese instrument on ebay or something, but I wouldn't recommend them. _________________ www.madfiddler.co.uk |

in facts I do not need a "standard" quality instruments ...
I made a sort of ambient music (please visit my site to listen MP3s) and I donot need necerssarly a cello; indeed I need an *electric* string instrument to process it.
At the moment I found the stagg Electric violin for a reasonable price ?
do you suggest it ? btw, Do you know if exsist a Viola in this range of feature ?

we have a yamaha "silent violin", and they make a cello as well. it's quite nice (i expect there is a little signal processing in there to make it sound "good")...even i can get a pleasing tone out of it, and it has a built in reverb. they seem to go for about 900euros new in the uk, perhaps you can find a used one. i expect that this is quite a bit better than the bottom of the barrel stuff you could find. i have heard some beautiful performances on the silent cello.

For 900 euro's (about £600?) you could get a nice Skyinbow, sound wise it's quite a bit 'up' on the Yam. _________________ www.madfiddler.co.uk |

...i think of the yamaha (perhaps incorrectly, i have no qualifications to judge) as being more like a "toy" that in general sounds "pleasing", and is not going to be as flexible as a better instrument, but it can hide some pretty poor technique (like mine). perhaps there are other instruments like this that even do a better job. at least in the woodwind area, the bottom of the line yamahas are much better than similarly priced instruments from other manufacturers.

(I think that's why they stuck the reverb chip on it, sshhhh) _________________ www.madfiddler.co.uk |

...if the yamaha isn't "good", it is in a differant way than a cheap, poorly made ebay instrument would be. it is well constructed, and as i said, sounds good, and is easy to get a good sound on. by some standards, it is an excelent instrument (perhaps not to a real cellist, however).
