Cameleon 5000 Additive Morphing Resynthesiser
Cameleon 5000 is a revolutionary virtual synthesiser, featuring unique resynthesis and sound morphing technologies, and offering unparalleled ease of programming.
The Cameleon 5000 blurs the boundaries between sampling and synthesisin unprecedented ways.
Want a bass sound with the tone of an acoustic, but the punch of an electric? Simply import samples of both, and click in the "morphing square" to create your own hybrids. Imagine a patch with the harmonics of a human voice, and the percussive attack of an acoustic piano. Imagine real-time morphing between a vibraphone and a choir, or a flute and a guitar. With the Cameleon, anything is possible.
Camel Audio's new Sonic Blueprint analysis algorithms and Hybrid Synthesis sound warping technology are the results of several years' painstaking research in the field of digital signal processing. Theory is put into practice with the Cameleon: a unique musical instrument, notable both for its exceptional sound quality and intuitive user interface.
At its heart lies a powerful additive synthesiser, with freely detunable partials and a flexible 128 band noise generator. Any single note WAV/AIFF format sampled sound can be imported and "blueprinted", its key characteristics instantly captured and made available for use in the synthesis engine.
Advanced data reduction techniques allow the complex description of real acoustic sounds to be reduced to a relatively small number of parameters, for easier real-time manipulation. The synthesiser offers both velocity and keyboard scaling, allowing you to add heightened expressive "realism" to even your most outlandish creations.
The Camelon comes with a comprehensive library of both acoustic andelectronic sounds, organised into categories including bass, pads and strings, among others. These sounds can be browsed, by sound or by category, from the Cameleon's easy-to-use interface.
Cameleon is available for Win VST, Mac OS X VST and AU.

| This is a very interesting instrument. It does stuff only very expensive systems, like the Kyma, previously could do. The user interface looks quite nice for this kind of resynthesis work. Their web site has some excellent demos. This should be worth a try. |

| Yes, it looks interesting, but the demo sounds aren't all that great. |

If your interested in this kind of synthesis but dont want to splash out just yet have a look at this
http://www.discodsp.com/public/vertigo/
its a beta of discodsp's vertigo. Seems to do the same sort of thing, though i dont know how the specs match-up.
Having had my first experience of additive synthesis last year with virsyns cube i was a little disapointed, while many of the sounds were impressive I found it hard to program and it just seemed to lack somthing in the overall sound it was producing. |

True. The demo sounds could have been better. The PLEX is not quite like the Cameleon though. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

This one seems cool, but it is PC only? You have used it? And you think it is good? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

BTW: I am a big fan of the other Camel products... the CamelPHAT series. The CamelPHAT free is an excellent little noisemaker.
| Quote: | CamelPhatFREE is our completely free, fully-functional, nag-free VST plugin. We are giving it away so that users can experience the quality and power of Camel Audio plugins for nothing. It combines a number of different effects in one unit, all very similar to those sported on its larger cousin; SuperCamelPhat v.2.
CamelPhatFREE features a distortion effect and a compressor. These are cut-down, more basic reconfigurations of SuperCamelPhat 2's acclaimed guitar overdrive and compression algorithms. CamelPhatFree includes the 'Random Camel' present on all Camel Audio plugins. It is MONO only and does not support MIDI control. If you like the effects on CamelPhatFREE and want to experience the power of MIDI control, STEREO operation, professional-grade implementations of these effects, and a whole host more besides, we recommend considering upgrading to SuperCamelPhat 2. |

Regarding vertigo
Sorry to hear its PC only, but having said that its a rare thing, think about all the mac-only products out there, Im still fuming about logic audio, I cannot express in words how upest I am about that.
anyway yes I like it, I dont yet understand the principle behind the synthesis but that hasnt really hampered my use of it, I like the re-synthesis a lot, with some sounds there seems to be some clipping but this is somthing im sure will be ironed out in the comerical version, It is also quite processer hungry I have trouble playing more than 3 notes. The envelope control is very good (reminds me of absynth) and the overall potential to create new sounds is vast. |
