Camel Audio's new Sonic Blueprint analysis algorithms and Hybrid Synthesis sound warping technology are the results of several years' painstaking research in the field of digital signal processing. Theory is put into practice with the Cameleon: a unique musical instrument, notable both for its exceptional sound quality and intuitive user interface.


At its heart lies a powerful additive synthesiser, with freely detunable partials and a flexible 128 band noise generator. Any single note WAV/AIFF format sampled sound can be imported and "blueprinted", its key characteristics instantly captured and made available for use in the synthesis engine.


Advanced data reduction techniques allow the complex description of real acoustic sounds to be reduced to a relatively small number of parameters, for easier real-time manipulation. The synthesiser offers both velocity and keyboard scaling, allowing you to add heightened expressive "realism" to even your most outlandish creations.


The Camelon comes with a comprehensive library of both acoustic andelectronic sounds, organised into categories including bass, pads and strings, among others. These sounds can be browsed, by sound or by category, from the Cameleon's easy-to-use interface.

This is a very interesting instrument. It does stuff only very expensive systems, like the Kyma, previously could do. The user interface looks quite nice for this kind of resynthesis work. Their web site has some excellent demos. This should be worth a try.

its a beta of discodsp's vertigo. Seems to do the same sort of thing, though i dont know how the specs match-up.

Having had my first experience of additive synthesis last year with virsyns cube i was a little disapointed, while many of the sounds were impressive I found it hard to program and it just seemed to lack somthing in the overall sound it was producing.

Regarding vertigo

Sorry to hear its PC only, but having said that its a rare thing, think about all the mac-only products out there, Im still fuming about logic audio, I cannot express in words how upest I am about that.

anyway yes I like it, I dont yet understand the principle behind the synthesis but that hasnt really hampered my use of it, I like the re-synthesis a lot, with some sounds there seems to be some clipping but this is somthing im sure will be ironed out in the comerical version, It is also quite processer hungry I have trouble playing more than 3 notes. The envelope control is very good (reminds me of absynth) and the overall potential to create new sounds is vast.
