There is not a lot of activity yet - most people are still on the Yahoo Groups Moog Modular forum. The crew at Arturia are definately planning some new things for Moog Modular V. I suggested multiple audio outputs and inputs via a small jack field - and they seem to be at least considering it (it would be neat to be able to plug an oscillator directly to a soundcard output, process it externally then bring it back in) This would introduc a little latency (depending on what you did outside the synth) but can usually be compensated for - Saw Studio does this (software DAW). They are considering a true random waveform generator and other things. I would like to be able to use two monitors with it so I could see everything without using the mouse... There is also a Storm forum as well.

Two monitors? Excellent! Great idea. That is one of the important improvements they could come up with right now.

Yes having two monitors with it would be one of the more important improvements I would want - there is just so much going and it is a pain to bounce back and forth between windows. Other things I would like - a MIDI output from the sequencer would be cool. Dual CPU mode to help reduce CPU strain - or at least spread it out. Right now MMV uses about the same amount of CPU power (as viewed on V-stack's CPU meter) on my single P-III 733 and my dual - P-III 850...I should take one of the 850's out and make another machine! Laughing

The next cool thing - a hardware control surface full of knobs and midi out to send straight to MMV! Very Happy

(actually this could probably be built pretty reasonably...)

The latest update was said to reduce CPU load on PCs. Is this true??

I believe it did though to be honest when I got mine I almost immediately installed the update...
I might try reintalling it and check it with and without the update. I have been having alot of fun with it and have several ideas in the works using the MMV

One thing that must be taken into consideration with this or any other softsynth is the sound card - a Sound Blaster will not sound nearly as good as going to an external high quality D/A convertor... I am using RME HDSP 9652 and Hammerfall 9652 cards goign to my Spirit digital 328 board - sounds so much better then when I ran it on the SB Live.

If they want, they can have a support/discussion here on electro-music.com. Dave, would you offer that to them, if appropriate? I'd gladly revisit my slightly negative review as I understand they have subsequent releases that improved the latency problems I observed.

Well, they have their forum set up at Arturia - there are basically 4 forums - 2 for Storm and 2 for MMV - each product has a general discussion and a support forum. Honestly though I have not seen much action - I probably have posted as much as anyone there and I have posted twice. I will mention to them your offer Howard - it can't hurt!

I was just thinking how cool it would be to have a complete cabinet made with all the controls for MMV on it - and it would connect back to the computer using ethernet or midi (ethernet would be faster). Or better yet - have a dedicated computer inside the cabinet running MMV....of course that would mean you would have to have motorized controls or rotary encoders with LED positional feed back rings around them (ouch! my wallet is cringing already!).

Hmm... smart. I posted a similar suggestion on some list a month or two ago. Gimme a MOTM style OS X AU modular synth with all kinds of insane modules ( and a modular plugin format.. possibly using AU too..) , support for 2-6 monitors and external controller panels. Possible mlan support for linking several "instruments" and virtual CVs etc.

Controllers aren´t that hard to make. The best layout would be physical module spaces ala the MOTM. And a lego system which means you can assemble pots, jacks and stuff. jacks for virtual CVs would just be a matter of a logic switch that goes on if a one lead cable electrically connects in module x and y. It would also be cool to have real CV/gate interface for use with analog gear.

I would love to have modules which could be used for .. hmm.. increasing efx level if the distance between notes played on keyboard controller X and keyboard controller y is larger than value N. or whatever.. Using stepsequencers and random number units for stereo mixing... serious fun.

And think about the possiblities of having drivers which cold connect such a beast directly to the Waldorf AFB ... hmm.. that might be a cool feature for the MMV too.

You could make the cabinet thinner then a "real" modular making it easier to transport and setup. Actually having a "super" control surface geared for softsynths in general would be cool. You could fit so much more in the ways of controls on a given amount of cabinet real-estate...the problem with most current control surfaces is that they are geared to primarily replace mixing boards...sliders are not necessarily the best way (at least for me) to do synth adjustments -it was ok on the Arp 2600 - I didn't really care for them on the juno whatever it was.
