MIDImplant gate out voltages Subject description: Gate output voltages on the Midimplant |
 |
|
Afternoon EM
Im looking at using the MIDImplant in my basic modular for 1v/Oct CV and Gate but i noticed in the spec sheet that:
"Gate-on is represented with voltage at the level of supply voltage (6..15V)."
I'm powering my synth with 12v so that means an gate output of 12v! A little too high me thinks!
I was planning on simply sticking a LM7805 regulator on the end of the gate to bring the voltage down to 5v but im concerned there maybe a lag that throws the gate timing off. (datasheet: http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/LM/LM7805.pdf)
Do people think this is suitable or would i be better reducing the power to the implant itself (minimum is 6v) and thus having a 6v gate signal.
Thanks T |

Right... no one has an answer or is the question to stupid?
What is an average gate voltage then? |

| I think there is typically 10v or 5v gates. Your other modules will determine that. And they will also determine their own sensitivity to either voltage ;( Also, you can just as easily use a voltage divider made out of resisters, to reduce the 12v down to 5/10v gate your need. This has no lag, and since there is no frequency content, you really don't have to worry about impedance issues being thrown off by the resister network. Higher values in the resistors will reduce current consumption, so you might experiment to see what works in your system. |

Thanks for the reply, as you can probabluy guess i'm pretty new to this. I have EFM 3600 VCF finished and im working on the thomas henry VCA desighn. Can somone tell me the gate voltage used in these systems. I think its 5v as my VCF responds to that quite well but i may be wrong. |

I have the midi implant. I use it with a 15v power supply, so it puts out a 15v gate signal which doesn't seem to have a negative impact on any of the module I hook up to it. I have noticed a different problem with it. If you were wanted to bring the voltage of the gate down, you should use a regulator on the power supply to the unit, not to gate output.
I have mine configured to do pitch CV and gate for Channel 4, and Pitch CV and Gate for Channel 5. sometimes when I hit more than one note on channel 5, it will trigger a gate on, on channel 4, which will only get turned off, when I trigger a note on or off, on channel 4 again. |
