do you think definable knob ranges are a necessary thing to have?
Yes. (I don't want to be hauled to court because someones kid busted his eardrums with my clarinet patch)

I've often met situations where limiting the range of knob-controlled parameters is essential for the smooth or correct workings of a sound circuit.

Of course, one can use constant modules with subsequent multiplication/offset addition to do the job. However, this can only be done if the parameter to be controlled has a modulation input. Alot of them don't.

And of course, you can also do a shtick with assigning MIDI CC#s to knobs and using CC# send modules. But that is very inconvenient to set up, uses more modules (mem%!) and MIDI bandwidth.

What I'm imagining is that the "parameter pages" and "parameter overview" knob displays also show a control range, exactly like morph group deltas. These ranges are min to max by default, but can be adjusted by some kind of "shift-click" procedure.

Morph deltas that override these set ranges simply remain ineffective, just like it is now with the min and max ranges.

These ranges could differ from variation to variation. And it would be great to have the possibîlity of accessing and editing these ranges from the synth too (pressing some button combination displays and gives access to the knob ranges, just like morph groups)

This would be most beneficial to streamline and tailor the UI of a patch and stake off potentially hazardous parametrisation, so that stuff like nifty feedback loops cannot blow up and destroy ears and speakers of innocent preset users happily tweaking away.
What do you think?
