Unique "Must Have" Modules? |
 |
|
ive had my hands on nearly all the vintage modulars. i feel the sound of the vintage stuff is incredible and that the newer modulars ive used dont sound as good. however, i realize many newer modules offer options their vintage precursors didnt have.
so, im looking for some newer modules that would complement vintage modulars well. any recommendations of "must haves"?
thanks

The electro-music.com Klee sequencer should be on that list. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

I think I know what your getting at but I wonder if it's a case of all the old stuff that sounded like crap having been thrown away and forgotten so that the comparison is now between the best of the old stuff and all of the new stuff. After a long time on the sidelines I bought some new gear and some of that new stuff is really really good.
There are some very fancy oscillators out there. People rave about the Livewire AFG and the soon to be released PlanB model 30 sounds very promising. The Zeroscillator from Cyndustries is a one of a kind with unique FM capabilites. I don't have any of those but I do have Modcan's digital oscillators and am very happy with them. They go well with the old gear and take things in new directions too. The samples on the website don't do them justice. The Plan B model 15s have a kind of vintage quality. I like them a lot. They have character. I won't say anything about filters, that's an even more subjective thing. |

thanks for the recommendations. i thought i posted a reply about the klee but dont see it here now... so here goes again...
ive got quite a few vintage analog sequencers, like the serge tkb, arp sequencer, etc. what features has the klee got that arent found in vintage analog sequencers?
i too have heard good things about plan b oscillators and am looking forward to listening to sound clips of, well, just about everything.... when time allows. but in the meantime, more recommendations would be excellent!
thanks

what's the difference?
Well on the immediate surface, there is little difference, until you realize that the Klee actually writes the music for you- and the rest.
There is nothing else out there like it, apart from say, Buchla's source of uncertainty.
You could build one. A fourth run of boards is imminent. _________________ ACHTUNG!

Ready? They are ready. You just have to build them. You can download the schematics from the Klee forum. PCB kits are available from the forum owner, Mosc. State machine may be able to provide a component kit, however, BOM's are available- so you can order online.

Ah I misunderstood you.
Okay wait a few weeks, then they should be ready. You will need to design your own front panel too.
Make sure that you show us your finished article too! _________________ ACHTUNG!

is it really going to be 1 per customer? id like to get a couple for myself and a friend of mine wants a couple as well, though he may be buying them himself. do you think anyones going to offer a full kit with a front panel as well? as fun as panel design can be, i work really long hours so id rather have a quicker fix if at all possible
thanks

Well I have to say that the MOTM 440 discrete Lo Pass filter is the BEST of the 45 modular filters I have.
That would be my choice !

45???
I just counted 9 total here and I've owned a bunch of classic gear and I agree, the MOTM 440 is my fave of all time, not that the other filters don't all have their place (especially a Lo Pass Gate)... plenty of filters out there I haven't heard and can't comment on but the 440 gets the Bic Lighter wave from me of the stuff I've heard, yessir. I think I'll patch that little fella up right now.
It's Boddington's here this evening Beermaster What're you havin'? _________________ doctorvague's youtube channel |

| Wow, that's a pretty enormous collection of filters. The 440 is one of the best I've encountered but I'm wondering what you'd rank as just below the 400. |

I was going to ask the exact same question...
Or how about the top 5 and why they are favorites. |
