Yo, I'm Josh Subject description: New to Electronica... |
 |
|
Hey,
I'm Josh and I'm pretty new to electronica. I've been playing guitar for the past 6 years and have been a rocker all my life, but recently have been expanding my horizons. You can accuse my electronica tastes as bland, if you want, because all the groups I like are just the ones I've heard...so I'm a big fan Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Castles, Neon Indian, and MGMT (that's about it). I've also heard some trance and house music before, and think they are really cool, although I feel like I couldn't name an artist off of the top of my head who produces that type of music.
On an unrelated note, I'm interested in checking out some electronica music software. I'm somewhat intimidated by the vast number of programs, hardware and software available and don't know where to begin. I would really love a program that could allow me to customize beats, rhythms and instrumental sections to actually produce full songs. I would want to music similar to that of Daft Punk and Chemical Brothers (deep bass, lots of instrumental and crazy-sound potential, realistic beats and claps, etc.). If you need me to elaborate more about what I'm looking for in this software hunt, let me know.
I'm also from DC, and am a senior in high school. |

How about Ableton Live, you can grab a demo from their website. |

Thanks guys.
And Bob, I guess I'll try out the demo. Do you feel Ableton Live fits what I'm looking for? |

also if you interested in checking out new music... pop in at any of the links below to have a listen
cheers and good luck on your music endeavor!
...stay in sync
-Q | No demo for Cubase? Aww man, I've heard a lot of cool things about that program. Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll try the Logic Pro demo. This means Fruity Loops, Ableton Live, Logic Pro and Cubase are on my list. I have a lot of work to do...haha.
EDIT: Alright. I've toned my list down to either Logic Pro or Cubase. I like Logic because it caters to Macs and has a lot of cool features, however, it almost looks like a software for making rock music on a computer; again, I'm looking for something that will allow me to create music very similar to Daft Punk or Chemical Brothers. Cubase looks good too for similar reasons. |

I would consider Live if I was you.
I have Live, Logic Pro and Cubase.
Cubase never gets used from my experience it just doesn't run well on Macs.
Logic Pro is fantastic software, for general multi track recording and mixing projects I use Logic Pro.
Live is by far my favourite, it allows you to work in a way that Logic and Cubase just can't. It is more like an idea sketchpad, very cool.
Logic has an advantage over Live though in the fact you get a good set of useable software instruments and apple loops. To get the same in Live you would need to get extra plugins and loops.
A Live/Logic combination is a good one. Sketch out ideas in Live and then move to Logic for final mixing.
Cheers

| I love you guys. Haha. You've made my decision pretty obvious. Live and Logic seem to fit me well. These are expensive packages, so I hope they will be of use to me once I understand how to use them. I do think, however, that I will buy Logic first, and then wait awhile for Ableton Live (parents are nice people, but not THAT nice). |
