why did they not make a rack/tabletop model? |

i'm guessing it's been brought up, but i can't believe they haven't yet released a 19" module w/ the interface of the keyboard version. it's almost too coincidental that the control surface of the keyboard version is about 18", as usual w/ Clavia's Nord Lead line and the original Modular. i'm guessing anyone who bought the Engine would have eagerly jumped at the chance to pay a hundred or two more for the interface? how upset will they be if Clavia does eventually release this (which seems crazy not to do)? while the Engine is an amazing concept, it seems like it would be better suited as an expansion module for someone who already owns another G2, no? _________________ SoundCloud |

Well, aparently such a model would cost almost the same as the keyboard. Those displays and the quality pots are expensive. I don´t see how that would be a problem and to me it would actually be worth more then the keyboard version but I apear to be next to alone in that vision.
I think the engine, more then a expansion, is a studio workhorse. It´s great for that job, I could see people stacking up a couple of them.
I suppose Clavia did some market research but I sincerely wonder how many people actually want a keyboard on their modular but then in all honesty; if I had designed it I would´ve sold 50 or so.... _________________ Kassen |

| Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if Clavia released the controls as a stand-alone control-surface. Make it a MIDI interface (or audio) for the host as well. |

... I feel your pain, Kassen. I was moaning about this before they released the G2, and I also would greatly prefer a knob-infested rack/table box with no keyboard. All of us who already have a master midi keyboard controller have no use for yet another keyboard, especially a three octave (!?!) keyboard. We want rack modules, WITH a user interface.
Of course, it's still the coolest synth ever, but if/when they release a rack box with knobs, I'll probably sell my G2 & get one, even though it will end up costing me. _________________ Dave Peck |

Oh, yes, even in my most critical moments I can´t deny that this is the most amazing hardware synth ever.
We always want more and better. The poor want more money but clearly so do the rich....
I for example want it to be more compact, I want more math, I want OSC for the G2 and Live, I want it to have a slightly less bright sound and I´d like it to cook dinner, then serve this with red wine but as soon as it does all of those I´ll be ready to say "whoops, did i forget I need ten times as much zero page memory?" with my mouth full of food.
It´s human nature. _________________ Kassen |
