Hey,

I have been playing piano/keyboard for about 5 years now and recently purchased a synth (Korg X5D) and a midi IN/OUT to usb converter cable so I could record on my PC. However, I have done everything I can based on the manuals to prep it to record and it won't work. I have enabled my keyboard as the midi device for the PC and installed all drivers, etc. I was under the impression that simply using windows sound recorder to record will work, but it does not detect any sound. Either I haven't enabled the midi through my USB or its something else. If anyone has any tips or ideas, please let me know. It's very possible I'm just not using the right recording software....Thanks in advance if you can help.

John

welcome

I Windows sound recorder won't record MIDI. For this you need some sort of digital audio workstation, or special program for recording the MIDI data.

You can download a free application called MIDIOX that will enable you to record MIDI data and debug your MIDI connections. It won't do multi-tracking though, for tht you need something like Sonar, Cubase, etc.
